Committee concurs in the PERS position <br /> that the specialized services regardng identification and communications <br /> work by male personnel no longer justifies safety member classifica- <br /> tion ( i , e , , designation as "policemen " ) in the retirement system . <br /> Accordingly , Committee recommended a • proval of legislation providing <br /> for redesignation of new male communication and identification emryees . <br /> Councilman Henderson moved to approve Legislative Committee recommendations <br /> and authorize implementation as requested , seconded by Councilman Petersen <br /> and carried (MINUTE ORDER #72 -63 ) <br /> Mayor Bury commended the Committee for its excellent efforts , noting other <br /> cities are now following suit . <br /> Agreement for Services Dumbarton Fire Protection District . <br /> Council , on February 28 , 1972 , took action authorizing legal action against <br /> the District for non-payment under the existing agreement , and requesting <br /> LAFC and County Board of Supervisors to act to abolish District and <br /> establish County Service Area for the purpose of a direct County contract <br /> for fire protection . The existing agreement states that in order to <br /> terminate the contract , either party must give notice to the other by <br /> March 31st to be effective for the succeeding fiscal year , The Council <br /> is requested to consider giving such notice . <br /> Mayor Bury inquired as to whether there had been any further communication <br /> with the Dumbarton Fire District regarding payment or termination of <br /> agreement . City Manager James Fales informed Council that there had not . <br /> Councilman Weymouth informed Council that he had received a telephone <br /> call regarding provisions set in the Agreement of 1967 . He indicated that <br /> there seemed to be some misunderstanding regarding continuance of the fire <br /> protection throughout the year unless contacted . City Manager James Fales <br /> in answer read that portion of the Agreement regarding termination provisions . <br /> Councilman Petersen moved to authorize issuance of written notice to terminate <br /> agreement , as specified in the agreement , seconded by Councilman Weymouth . <br /> Councilman Williams inquired whether there would be a period of time <br /> between termination of our Agreement and the finding of an alternative , <br /> during which residents of that District would be without fire protection . <br /> City Manager informed Council that it was conceivable , but that the <br /> termination would not take place before July 1972 . <br /> 3 -20-72 <br />
