119
COMMUNITY PROGRESS REPORT
Redwood Shores . City Manager advised that Mr . James Reiter , of DMJM , would
give a status report on Redwood Shores construction , and that as previously
reported, virtually all public works items had been nearly completed .
Mr . Reiter reported briefly on five efforts and their
standing : Marlin Subdivision No . 1 is recommended by
their staff for acceptance , and final negotiations for
payment of contract under way . Bridge Parkway Bridge and
Bridge Connections completed and accepted by Council .
Marlin Subdivision No . 2 was completed , and pending
final arrangements and testing of force main which runs
alongside . Fifth project was the Winter Maintenance
program which they are prepared to recommend for
acceptance , and expect to have before Council formally
the following week . He indicated this more or less
concluded public works which have been under way for
the past several years , and efforts now would be to
closely monitor progress of builders , and assist home
owners , as well as take care of housekeeping duties
until additional homes are built . Then they would be
prepared , if feasible , to recommend for another bond
sale . A number of design and study task orders have
been closed out with only a few remaining which are
expected to be completed in the next thirty days . He
concluded with remarks commending City , Manager for the
fine working relationship over the several years since
the project began .
City Manager advised that representatives of Leslie Properties , Inc . , had
indicated there was no significant new material to report at this time .
They were moving ahead with homes and it was expected new residents will
soon be moving into these subdivisions .
Seismic Advisory Board Schedule . City Manager was advised by the Chairman
that in one capacity or another , all members have reviewed results of the
San Fernando area earthquake and findings would be incorporated in their
report and that some of the facts have been made available for the first
time because of excellent instrumentation relatively close to the damaged
area . They will be working into June and would make a comprehensive report
shortly after that time .
San Carlos Airport Expansion Plans . City, Leslie Properties and County staffs
have been reviewing this for some time . Still at staff level , but the National
Airport Plan, which has been approved by Federal Aviation Administration , pro-
grams this airport to have a runway 3 , 000 feet long so as to accommodate 95%
of general aviation aircraft . The present 2 , 600 foot runway would therefore
( have to be extended an additional U00 feet . County owns the land for the
extension , but to maintain required clearance above the dike in vicinity of
the extension , the dike will need to be relocated, and a small portion filled
inboard of the dike . The extension will also change the FAA classification
and requires additional clearance at each end , and this basically was how
Redwood City became involved . Planning Commission has reviewed the expansion
plans and Commissioners feel they would have minimal effect on the adjacent
properties if extended at the South end toward Whipple Avenue . They also
