v
49er Practice Field . Plans and specifications being reviewed , and will be on
agenda for May 10 . Alternate bid basis has been requested calling for use of
sod versus seeding , which was recommended originally . In a revised cost
estimate , it was believed it may be possible to do all work necessary and
install sod rather than seeding , and still come in at , or slightly over, the
original estimate .
United California Bank Project report . Pilings have been driven , base pads
are in , and beginning to install reinforcement steel . Architects estimate
they will complete on November 1st , and Bank staff feel most probably occu-
pancy would take place first of next year .
With regard to the report on 49er field renovation , in response to inquiry by
Councilman Weymoyth, City Manager confirmed the commitment by k9ers that they
would participate 50% up to a maximum of $ 10 , 000 , and added it would be payable
on demand in a single payment .
Councilman Keckley inquired if there was a report on the HUD facility . City
Manager responded that City Attorney advised they had completed escrow and
property now in possession of the City ; architect is proceeding with working
drawings . Authorization has been made for site surveys , soil tests , etc . , and
project was moving along well .
Councilman Henderson commented on a news item and pictures concerning storm
drain grates and potential hazard of the design , and asked for review and
report back by Staff for another type that would be less hazardous . City
Manager responded that apparently the problem is in the fact that grate bars
were parallel to traffic , and bicycles could get caught in them . The question
was whether they could be redesigned to bring bars 90o to the line . It was
requested by Mayor Bury that the problem be investigated and reported back to
Council . ( Memo 5-4-71 )
Mayor Bury advised of a letter dated April 28 , 1971 , received by him from Mr .
England , of Griffenhagen-Kroeger , Inc . , reporting on progress in their
recruitment for a new City Manager , which he read in full . ( Copies had been
provided for Council . ) He suggested that Council be prepared to be available
for the weekend of June 5 and 6 , or June 12 and 13 , for interview of candidates .
Councilman Keckley advised that in view of the interest in the matter by persons
present , he would like to announce that the joint Planning Commission and Council
Committee on zoning would be holding a meeting the following day at 7 : 30 a . m .
in City Manager ' s office , and the first item on the agenda would be a matter
referred to them by Council on April 19th , to begin a study on " low-income
housing" for this area .
