09 <br /> Councilman Henderson inquired concerning a recent letter from the Redwood <br /> Shores Homeowners ' Association relating to the feasibility report , and <br /> wondered when City would be able to respond . City Manager reported that <br /> this matter was receiving attention and a response would be made in the <br /> near future , as soon as all the information is available . <br /> Mayor Bury commented on a new and interesting newspaper , the Redwood Shores <br /> Pilot , which is published by the Redwood Shores Homeowners ' Association , <br /> and which was distributed to Council tonight . He invited Mr . George Hayes , <br /> President of the group , to comment . <br /> Mr . Hayes stated they were very happy with <br /> the newspaper and reported that many people <br /> contribute to its production , all on a volunteer <br /> basis except for the actual printing . It is <br /> their plan to continue the paper and hope that <br /> future issues will contain varied information <br /> of interest to all the residents . <br /> He expressed concern about the lagoon pollution , <br /> stating that it was his impression that a <br /> backup system was to be available in case of <br /> power failures . He also mentioned the oil in <br /> the lagoon . <br /> Mayor Bury stated that Staff would be in discussion with Mr . Hayes as soon <br /> as possible and try to isolate the cause of the oil in the lagoon . In <br /> response to question concerning backup system , City Manager asked Mr . Reiter <br /> to comment . <br /> Mr . Reiter stated that the power supply was <br /> the responsibility of P G & E and not the City <br /> or the District . He offered to discuss the <br /> matter of a possible secondary power source <br /> with the P G & F . He also stated that as <br /> Redwood Shores develops , there will be another <br /> major power tie . <br /> City Manager stated that there has not been from the beginning a concept of <br /> supplying auxiliary power to Shores . Primarily , the problem being discussed <br /> tonight is the failure of the pump stations in the sanitary sewer system . A <br /> unique situation exists here . In the existing City , most of the waste water <br /> systems operate by gravity , The few pump stations in the City are provided <br /> emergency backup power , The same holds true for the hospitals . With the <br /> large number of lift stations at Shores , the feasibility of providing them <br /> with individual backup power or providing an auxiliary power station at Shores <br /> to take care of these outages , which really is a problem of P G & E , was not <br /> considered in the original engineering or feasibility study . <br /> Mr . Reiter stated that it was discussed in the <br /> feasibility study , but primarily is a P G & E <br /> function , The need is recognized for some kind <br /> of overall consideration , perhaps a monitoring <br /> system or telemetering alarm system to minimize <br /> the extent of the outage in the case of the pump <br /> stations or in the storm drainage system . <br />
