U 4 Students in an Ecology class at Canada College have made a proposal to the Park and Recreation Commission for the development of a mini park at Linden and Park on the Hetch Hetchy right-of-way , Plans have been drawn and students are willing to furnish the labor on weekends . Staff has been in touch with San Francisco Water Department in an effort to determine whether or not they will issue a revocable type permit to allow this area to be turfed and play area constructed for the children in the area . A favorable response is anticipated . Mr . William Borland , 638 Acacia Lane , Redwood City, explained the proposal and presented a preliminary sketch . He stated that the students were anxious to work on the project , and it was his belief that the residents in the area would have no objection . The park would be constructed from donated material , and it is planned to ask the business men in Redwood City to make small donations . Council commended the students and expressed enthusiastic support for their project . City Manager noted that the students are willing to start cleanup operations immediately if a letter of permission can be obtained from San Francisco . He stated that preliminary studies indicate that much of the Hetch Hetchy land is being used under revocable permits at present . The San Francisco Water Department apparently has plans to build another barrel and has cautioned against developing the area in any great detail . However , they appear to be in favor of granting a revocable permit for this project . Mayor Bury suggested to Mr . Borland that the Ecology class could perhaps consider the possibility of a parking area for recreational -type vehicles on some of this land in view of the restrictions against parking trailers and campers in the City . City Manager advised Council that City Clerk Marian McCrindle returned to work today after having been away from the office for some time because of illness . City Manager reported that the homeowners at Redwood Shores have obtained - permission from the Belmont School District to create two baseball diamonds on vacant school district property . Leslie Salt Company has agreed to donate the cost of having the property graded and brought up to condition to lay out the baseball diamonds . They are in need of materials to construct backstops . City Recreation Director and Superintendent of Parks have advised that City has some pipes and expanded metal in good condition which were salvaged from fences and posts in the storm drain project , which could be used in constructing the backstops . Also , some City personnel have indicated they would be willing to help with this project on weekends .
