4R7
since the last discussion of one particular spill in December there have been
none . Councilman Keckley asked if the problem has been solved . Mr . Reiter
stated the sewerage reliability study is being conducted to determine what
other systems can be used in the event there is a power outage , and this report
will be brought back to Council the end of this month . (Memo 1-12 -71 )
City Manager stated there have been some mechanical changes in the devices within
the system itself , and hopefully improvements in the reliability in the mechanisms
of the cutoffs ,
City Manager proceeded to introduce the remaining items on the Community Progress
Report .
Status Report - CATV
Mr . Sonsini , Manager of Peninsula Cable TV, reported that
they have basically completed construction of facilities
throughout Redwood City except for a few small projects
which are budgeted and for which they will have definite
plans within the next few months . All schools have at
least one outlet . He suggested exploring the matter of
better use of some of the facilities at schools . There
have been some problems with billing procedures in the
past . They have had several audits and these are all up
to date , They plan to make a complete field audit of all
facilities to make sure that each subscriber is being
billed accurately . They are accomplishing this by having
a marketing company going to every house in Redwood City ,
noting the addresses and the subscriber names , and
comparing this with their records . The main purpose of
this , however , is to conduct a marketing campaign through-
out Redwood City . They are offering a 60 - day trial offer
where a subscriber pays for the first month and gets the
second month free , with free installation , They expect
to double the subscriber accounts within the next five
months through this program , which would mean approximately
6 , 000 individual subscribers by the end of June in Redwood
City alone . They have recently completed construction of a
black and white TV studio in San Carlos . There are
facilities for remote pickups and they can televise
( Channel 12 ) newsworthy events or meetings . Mr . Sonsini
urged community participation in these facilities .
Councilman Keckley noted the importance of informing the schools so they will know
what is available to them and can take advantage of this service . Mr . Sonsini
stated they have a full - time program director , Mr . Andy Trentacosta , who will
work with these people . In response to Councilman Keckley ' s request , Mr . Sonsini
agreed to advise the Council by letter of his ideas for using the facilities
for stimulating events within the community .
Mayor Bury inquired if CATV provided the equipment , etc . at their own expense
for these events , and also if there are commercial sponsors . Mr . Sonsini
replied that they do furnish the equipment and cameraman at their expense .
He further stated that community programs would be without commercial sponsors .
Councilman Petersen commented that there have been some complaints from
subscribers who expected to receive 20 channels and only receive 8 or 10 ,
