--- - - - -----°-- - -- __ . - -._-- - - -- 1.. ---T --
79
Mayor Bury felt that at the next joint session of Council with Planning
Commission, it might be an appropriate time to establish a policy . Council-
man Petersen indicated each application should be considered on its own
merits .
Councilman Henderson moved to reverse the Planning Commission and deny the
application for exception to the Subdivision Ordinance , seconded by Councilman
Williams and carried on roll call vote , Councilmen Henderson , Petersen, Rhodes ,
Williams and Mayor Bury voting yes , and Councilmen Keckley and Weymouth voting
no , (MINUTE ORDER #71- 54 )
Fee Schedules , Community Activities Building and Veterans Memorial Building .
Report had been submitted to Council on February 22 , 1971 . Action had been
postponed to permit time to circulate information on fee schedules to regular
users of the buildings . Communications protesting increases had been received
from Woodmen of the World ; Native Daughters of the Golden West , Bonita Parlor
No . 10 ; Robin Hood Circle 517 , Neighbors of Woodcraft , and were provided to
Council .
Councilman Henderson felt in view of several questions from individuals , she
did not feel prepared to set new fee schedules without more substantiation
for the need to do so .
Mr . James Schoffa , Redwood City , advised that
his group , Millmen ' s Union Local 42 , part of
the Carpenterst Union, met once a month in one
of the buildings , and had been paying $10 . 00
per meeting . They felt if the rate was increased ,
it would be necessary to go elsewhere .
Mayor Bury noted that the size of the rooms has a bearing on the rates .
James Knecht , Park and Recreation Commissioner ,
and Chairman of the Subcommittee , reported they
had held a number of meetings , and attempted to
make the two buildings comparable in rental rate
schedules . During the time Mrs . Thompson was
Chairman, priorities for the CAB were worked out ,
and groups were listed . Recommendation was made
that operation of both buildings be under the
Recreation Department . It was also felt that
rates charged for use of the Veterans Memorial
Building were far too low . He advised that rate
schedule was set also in attempt to discourage
small groups of three or four people from using
the large rooms , and that there are facilities
for small groups with lesser rates .
Doris Thompson, 49 Elwood , Park and Recreation
Commissioner , indicated they hoped the building
could be used to better capacity and more fairly .
Both buildings were comparable , and should have
corresponding rates , and this was what they
attempted to do . It was also felt the rates
were not keeping pace with the times .
In discussion , Council suggested the problem might be with the scheduling of
groups for proper sized rooms , rather than with rates .
