211 <br />Minutes of Regular Meeting <br />Redwood City Council <br />May 25, 1970 7:30 P.M. <br />Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilman Henderson. <br />Invocation led by Reverend Barry Wilbanks, First Christian Church, <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were noted present: Councilman Dixon Arnett, Mary W. <br />Henderson, Paul C. Keckley, Herbert G. Petersen, William C. Rhodes, Ray A. <br />Weymouth, Mayor Robert H. Bury and City Clerk Marian McCrindle. Also noted present <br />were City Manager Howard C. Ullrich, City Attorney David E. Schricker, Assistant City <br />Manager Henry V. Burget, Police Chief John R. McDonald, Jr., Fire Chief John Keller, <br />Director of Public Works J. Louis Scherer, Planning Director Ken Schroeter, City <br />Auditor -Accountant Jack Ference, Traffic Engineer Arthur U. Eskelin, and Secretary <br />Frances Ozzanto, <br />Councilman Keckley moved to approve Minutes of Regular Meeting of May 18, 1970, as <br />mailed, seconded by Councilman Arnett and carried. <br />Mayor Bury requested that, prior to the first scheduled item, another matter be <br />considered by Council at this time concerning achievements of Mr. Alexander <br />Poniatoff, whose retirement from Ampex Corporation was being honored at a luncheon <br />on May 27th. Councilman Weymouth moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 6298 CONGRATULATING <br />ALEXANDER M. PONIATOFF ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM AMPEX CORPORATION, <br />seconded by Councilman Keckley, and carried on roll call vote. Mayor Bury stated <br />the Resolution would be accompanied by a Certificate of Distinguished Service. <br />Personal appearance concerning "Current situation in Southeast Asia". <br />Mayor Bury announced that in order to maintain an equal balance a ten minute time <br />limit would be set for presentation of either side of the question. <br />Mr. John Howe, President, Associated Students, <br />Canada College read in full the action taken by <br />San Mateo Junior College Board of Trustees on <br />May 6, concerning resolutions transmitted to the <br />President of the United States urging withdrawal <br />of American military forces from Southeast Asia. <br />He then introduced the President of Associated <br />Students for the 1969-70 year, Mr. Robert Burnett, <br />Mr. Burnett, 2900 Broadway, spoke briefly of his <br />experiences and observations during military <br />service. He called upon Council for its stand <br />on the war in Southeast Asia, noting some of the <br />neighboring cities which had indicated their <br />positions. <br />Communications were noted as having been received objecting to Council taking official <br />position as being representative of community opinion on a matter of National policy, <br />from: <br />Martha Roberts, 128 Roosevelt Avenue <br />William H.
