300
Council questioned apparent storage lanes, i.e., east on Woodside at Santa
Clara, intended for U-turns only, and Director of Public Works advised
several locations where U-turns were installed at City's request.
Delores Gay, 234 Marshall Street, stated she represented
residents of the area, who are strongly opposed to
proposed openings between Maryland and Kentucky which
she felt would be a hazard, and indicated the fewer
openings the better. She indicated approval of the
Traffic Committee's recommendations.
Councilman Rhodes moved to approve revisions recommended by the Traffic
Committee and to request State Division of Highways to issue change order
to effect these modifications, seconded by Councilman Petersen.
Cliff Christensen, 3129 Barney Avenue, Menlo Park,
stated he was a property owner on Woodside Road, and
that he was acquainted with the traffic pattern. He
spoke in favor of the proposal by the Traffic
Committee,
Don Seidler, 186 Santa Clara Avenue, advised he was
representing the Highland Community Club and residents
of Santa Clara Avenue. He favored the recommendations
in the Traffic Committee report,
Mary Steel, 1758 Woodside Road, advised of many accidents
at Santa Clara Avenue, and approved of the proposals of
the Traffic Committee.
Motion carried. (MINUTE ORDER #70-124)
City Manager offered additional comments concerning the current State
Division of Highways project to widen Bayshore, and their plan to widen
the bridge across the creek at Whipple interchange and almost immediate
geometric change in off -ramp onto Woodside Road, When this proposed change
in alignment came to the attention of the Traffic Committee, they corresponded
with the State, stating objections. He added that on this date he had been
contacted by Mr. Green, of the Division of Highways, who advised that the
State does plan to redesign geometries which in the opinion of Staff would
create problems, funneling six lanes of traffic into three. He indicated
State apparently has a, time schedule it is working to. Staff is concerned
whether what State proposes will be a solution. He stated that with Council
permission it is planned to set up a series of meetings with the State in
an effort to resolve the problem. He added that in his conversation that
afternoon he pointed out to Mr. Green that some time ago the State had
indicated in a letter that at such time as Willow Road Expressway is
completed, it was the intention of the State to revert Woodside Road to
the City. He was concerned that this would come about prior to resolution
of these problems.
