Councilman Rhodes moved to place stop signs wherever they could legally
be put, whether sidewalks are put in or not. Councilman Arnett suggested
maker of the motion might want to change it somewhat, to recognize one
location is in County jurisdiction (East Lake Way and Mohican), and felt
request should be made to the County to put in stop signs.
In additional discussion, it was questioned whether placement of the
requested signs would serve to be a greater hazard, and Police Chief responded
that from what he had observed where stop signs have been installed, children
become used to it and less cautious, and someone will run the stop sign.
There was further discussion concerning the width of the street and the
fact that drivers often do not stay on the right side of the road, and it
was noted this was a traffic enforcement problem.
Councilman Rhodes' motion was restated, that stop signs be installed at
East Lake Way and Seminole Way, and that the request for stop sign at
East Lake Way and Mohican Way be referred to the County, seconded by Council-
man Arnett. Motion LOST on roll call vote, Councilmen Arnett and Rhodes
voting yes; Councilmen Henderson, Petersen, Weymouth and Mayor Bury voting
no, and Councilman Keckley being noted absent.
Council requested that Police Chief check availability of warning signs,
and assist the residents in getting them properly located and also to check
into the matter of drivers using the wrong side of the street. Police
Chief indicated the signs would be a matter for the Traffic Committee to
review, and that the second matter would be a matter of enforcement which
he intended to look into. (Memo 7-7-70)
(3) Extension of 2 -hour parking on Arguello Street. Police Chief reported
that 2 -hour parking currently exists on westerly side of Arguello between
Brewster and Sampson. Traffic Committee recommends that 2 -hour parking be
extended northerly on Arguello to Hopkins. PG&E employees arrive in this
business area and use all day parking, and it is recommended this be made
a 2 -hour parking zone.
Councilman Henderson moved to introduce Ordinance amending Section 20.96.3
of the Code of the City of Redwood City, relating to parking restrictions,
seconded by Councilman Petersen and carried.
(4) Relocation of parking meters. Police Chief advised that portions of
Hamilton and Bradford Streets previously were abandoned in connection with
expansion of the County Government Center, and that there are 33 parking
