312
Councilman Arnett moved to adopt RESOLUTION N0, 6339 APPROVING CONTRACT FOR
CONSTRUCTION OF EMERALD BRANCH CHANNEL IMPROVEMENTS, S,F,W,D, R/W TO QUARTZ
STREET, AND JEFFERSON BRANCH CHANNEL IMPROVEMENTS, CROMPTON ROAD TO VERA
AVENUE, PROJECT NO, SD -20, GENERAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT 1-65; REJECTING
ALL OTHER BIDS RECEIVED; AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF CONTRACT FOR SAID WORK;
AND DIRECTING RETURN OF SECURITY DEPOSIT, seconded by Councilman Henderson
and carried on roll call vote,
Mayor Bury noted the presence of Deputy Fire Chief Emile Biagi, whose promotion
became effective July 1, 1970, and Mrs. Biagi, and offered his congratulations,
The item next scheduled on the agenda was requested by City Manager to be
deleted being a Resolution authorizing quit -claiming of City's interests in
property owned by the County of San Mateo, and reserving easement for public
utility purposes,
WOODSIDE ROAD - Median Landscaping recommendation of Staff
City Manager referred to his report of June 29th, advising of State's
response to City's request for special treatment of medians. Staff recommended
irrigated turf in wide areas, and exposed aggregate in narrow sections. Council
was being requested to make a determination so that State's plans could be
modified accordingly. State participation would amountto approximately
$6,300, and cost to City for sod and irrigation would amount to approximately
$36,000, based on estimates of Ribera & Sue.
Councilman Henderson felt that similar areas in other parts of the City having
the narrow sections planted were much more attractive than use of aggregate,
and compared Alameda with Marine World Parkway. She suggested this be
recommended to the State.
Councilman Arnett indicated concern as to priorities for use of unappropriated
Gas Tax Funds, noting at least one of the uses indicated in the budget had
called for pro -rata use over the years. He asked if it would be possible
to have a report as to anticipated use of unappropriated balance of Gas
Tax for the next year. City Manager advised Staff will respond to that
request, as well as to the request concerning the planting aspect.
(Memo 7-14-70)
Councilman Petersen questioned the fact that more areas are being created
which are difficult and time-consuming for the Park Department to get to
for maintenance.
