328
Director of Public Works advised his staff had made the normal review of the
drawings and in his opinion the right turn lane was not pertinent to the driveway
location. The right turn lane was recommended so that traffic would be in two
moving lanes, with a lane for traffic to move into if desired. His staff was
not in a position to recommend approval of the DMJM proposal.
Mayor Bury questioned whether the Public Works proposal would require additional
dedication for rights-of-way for the right turn lane, and response was that
such dedication would not be required at this time, but would, if sidewalks are
deemed necessary. If no sidewalks were provided by the developer, and the City
requires them, additional easement would be required.
Mr. Reiter was asked again to detail the project, and
identified the locations onthe drawing. He commented that
present drawings do include sidewalks, but in the area of
the proposed right turn pocket. Rights-of-way were developed
along with Unit No. 1 and designated at that time.
Director of Public Works added that both entranceways into the sales pavilion
provide for either right or left turn lanes. In addition, he felt that it
would probably be years before Marine World Parkway connects to Shell Parkway
and until that time, the entire Shores area traffic would be funneled through
this one intersection.
Mr. Reiter commented further relative to their objection to
the proposed right turn pocket was the fact that drivers coming
— over the bridge would not be able to see because of a three-
foot differential in elevation.
Council briefly discussed further the matter of possibility of requiring more
land for sidewalks, landscaping or other similar needs, and City Attorney responded
that,as he understood it, under either proposal it would not be necessary to
acquire additional property, but if in future it was necessary to widen the
street, provide landscaping area or sidewalks, it would have to be determined
at that time which of various possible methods to use.
Councilman Petersen moved to accept the plan as proposed by the Department of
Public Works. There was no second and motion died.
Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION N0. 6341 APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS
FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF BRIDGE PARKWAY BRIDGE CONNECTIONS AND ASSOCIATED WORK,
- FOR REDWOOD CITY GENERAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT N0, 1-64; AND AUTHORIZING CITY CLERK
TO
CALL FOR BIDS THEREFOR, (plans
and specifications
prepared
by DMJM)
seconded
by
Councilman Arnett and carried
on roll call vote,
Councilman
Petersen
voting
no, and Councilman Henderson being noted absent.
