324
Councilman Arnett moved to adopt RESOLUTION N0. 6344 OF INTENTION TO VACATE
EASEMENTS FOR SANITARY SEWER AND PUBLIC UTILITY PURPOSES IN LANDS SITUATED
BETWEEN BAYSHORE FREEWAY AND VETERANS BOULEVARD IN THE VICINITY OF THE
INTERSECTION OF VETERANS BOULEVARD WITH CHESTNUT STREET, seconded by Council-
man Keckley. (Resolution sets public hearing for August 10, 1970)
The action was requested by County to clear their property, following
relocation of City's sanitary sewer line under Project SS -3, GID 3-65, and
in accordance with City's agreement with Fair Oaks Sewer Maintenance District
for relocation of 18" interceptor sewer in the subject property. Motion
carried on roll call vote, Councilman Henderson being noted absent.
Councilman Weymouth moved to introduce Ordinance repealing Division 2 of
Article IX of Chapter 2 of the Code relating to the Veterans Memorial Commission,
reserving the division heading of said Division 2; amending Sections 25.3,
25.4 and 25.15 of said Code to provide that the duties of the Park and
Recreation Commission shall include maintenance, operation and administration
of the Veterans Memorial Building; and repealing Section 25.17 of said Code
requiring the City Treasurer to maintain a separate Park and Recreation account,
seconded by Councilman Arnett, Mayor Bury commented on the letter received
from Don Peacock, Chairman of the Commission, dated July 14, which was the
day following the Council action to transfer the activities to Park and
Recreation Commission. The letter requested that five members be retained
on the Commission due to possible additional programs. Mayor Bury reported
that he had contacted the three remaining members to inform them, and that
he would attend the Park and Recreation Commission meeting on August 6 to clarify.
There were
indications from
Council that reactions
from Park and Recreation
Commission
were favorable.
Councilman Rhodes felt
the Commission should not
abruptly be
abolished, and
the several discussions
including a joint meeting
in January
prior to his election
to Council, were
reviewed for him.
Motion carried on roll call vote, Councilman Rhodes voting no, and Councilman
Henderson being noted absent.
There was additional discussion concerning the role of Veterans organizations
in the community, and Mayor Bury suggested that Council Committee be formed
to work on this and make recommendations. (Memo 7-27-70)
Councilman Arnett moved to reappoint Dr. Robert Brown and Mitchell Webber to
the Port Commission, for terms to expire in 1975, seconded by Councilman
Keckley and carried.
(MINUTE ORDER #70-140)
