359 <br /> Mrs , Claire Dedrick , Conservation Chairman , Sierra Club <br /> Robert Mark , representing a Stanford Conservation group <br /> The following appeared in opposition to establishment of this Refuge as presently <br /> proposed : <br /> Mr , Coleman Johnson , President , Leslie Properties , Inc . <br /> Council questioned whether any contact had been made by Federal Government since <br /> introduction of bill proposing this Refuge , for lease or purchase of properties <br /> owned by Leslie . Mr . Johnson stressed fact that specific details were lacking in <br /> the Federal legislation for this Refuge and that only one meeting had been held with <br /> their Company and Federal Bureau on Wildlife at which they had made their position <br /> clear as just presented , <br /> Captain Westoff , Chairman of Committee on Port and Bay Land , <br /> Redwood City Chamber of Commerce , expressed opposition to <br /> plan for reason that it is impractical unless can be merged <br /> with approved San Francisco Bay Plan for Port planning , <br /> water frontage industrially developed property , etc . <br /> William Oeser , 634 Emerald Hill Road , opposed this plan as <br /> felt other development plans would give more enjoyment to <br /> the Bay than through this program . <br /> Mayor Bury expressed appreciation for the presentation made by the various groups <br /> in attendance , which afforded an opportunity for exchange of viewpoints and also <br /> reviewed the steps which had been taken by the Council previously , endorsing programs <br /> which would indicate Council ' s concerns for control and preservation of the Bay and <br /> of wildlife , but of need for further details of the plan and resultant effects on <br /> our community if established . <br /> Councilman Arnett moved that Council request a formal resolution for adoption next <br /> week expressing support of such a Refuge in general , and making it possible thereby <br /> to communicate to Congress the reservations held by our City concerning a limitation <br /> of the number of acres to be involved so as not to upset the feasibility of Redwood <br /> Shores ; indicating restrictions to plan to avoid interference with assurance that <br /> protection would be afforded development adjacent to Refuge , costs , and details of <br /> financial arrangements for use of lands , guarantees concerning continued operation <br /> of salt ponds , etc . , seconded by Councilman Keckley , Councilman Keckley felt it <br /> also important that it be ascertained portion of Bird Island to be included in this <br /> sanctuary , <br /> Councilman Weymouth explained the aspects of this Refuge plan which must be viewed <br /> as a responsibility of the Council to citizenry of Redwood City in view of their <br /> also acting as Board of Directors of Redwood Shores District , the responsibility of <br /> viewing effect of this Plan on the Port of Redwood City , etc . After further dis - <br /> cussion motion carried , Councilman Weymouth voting no ( MINUTE ORDER #69- 110 ) . <br /> Mayor Bury called a five minute recess at 10 : 10 p . m . <br /> PUBLIC HEARING , Appeal of Joseph A . Repetti and Robert J . Dell ' Ergo , from denial by the <br /> Planning Commission of their application to rezone property located at 1441 Hudson <br /> Street , being portion of Lots 1 and 2 , Block A , Woodside Acres , from "R -2 " District <br /> continued for one week ( June 16th ) on motion of Councilman Weymouth , seconded by <br /> Councilman Keckley . <br /> ,stns 9 '88 <br />
