409 <br /> Mrs . Schillaci inquired if the building would have <br /> to be razed , citing the resulting hardship to owners , <br /> as there is a Loan against the property . She re - <br /> quested an extension on razing . <br /> Mayor Bury commented that a regular program of abating buildings that do not meet <br /> Code requirements will be undertaken , and Councilman Petersen made the point that <br /> it is not fair to a neghborhood to allow buildings to exist which present health <br /> and fire hazards to occupants or to adjoining properties , and the objective is to <br /> try to upgrade the area so that all can live in premises that are safe , <br /> Mrs . Schillaci stated it was their hope to remove <br /> the tenants , board up the building and hold the <br /> property for sale at a future time , <br /> Councilman Keckley noted that vacant and boarded up buildings are an invitation to <br /> vandalism, arson and vagrants . Councilman Rosselli assured Mrs , Schillaci that if <br /> action is taken forcing abatement , there would still be an opportunity to improve <br /> the property to bring it up to standards so that razing would not be necessary . <br /> Mrs . Schillaci stated the building not worth renovating . <br /> Councilman Petersen moved to close the public hearing , seconded by Councilman Weymouth . <br /> Motion carried . <br /> Councilman Petersen moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 6046 , DECLARING STRUCTURES LOCATED <br /> AT 546 MAPLE STREET IN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY TO BE A PUBLIC NUISANCE , DIRECTING <br /> THE OWNER TO ABATE SAID NUISANCE , AND ORDERING THE EXPENSE OF ABATEMENT TO BE MADE <br /> A LIEN UPON THE LAND IN THE EVENT THE NUISANCE IS NOT ABATED BY THE OWNER , seconded <br /> by Councilman Keckley and carried on roll call vote . ' <br /> Councilman Weymouth moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 6047 APPROVING SPECIFICATIONS FOR <br /> TREES FOR REDWOOD SHORES SUBDIVISIONS NO . 1 AND NO , 2 , REDWOOD SHORES , CITY OF <br /> REDWOOD CITY; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO CALL FOR BIDS THEREFOR , seconded <br /> by Councilman Petersen . <br /> Mayor Bury congratulated the Park Superintendent on his Department having won most <br /> of the prizes for entries in the San Mateo County Fair and Floral Fiesta . <br /> On question , it was noted that the developer will pay for the trees , and City will <br /> provide crews for planting and maintenance , as this will insure control . <br /> Councilman Keckley noted that the University of California has conducted experiments <br /> with soils in Redwood Shores , and are in a position to offer advice as to types of <br /> trees that will do best in that area . <br /> It was noted there are 283 trees involved in this project . Motion carried on roll <br /> call vote . <br /> Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 6048 APPROVING SPECIFICATIONS FOR <br /> MUNICIPAL SERVICES CENTER FURNITURE ; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO CALL FOR <br /> BIDS THEREFOR , seconded by Councilman Rosselli . Motion carried on roll call vote . <br /> City Manager noted that plans are to complete first phase of transition into new <br /> facilities by end of August , then proceed to second phase , with total completion <br /> expected by the first of next year . <br /> Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 6049 APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS <br /> FOR RESURFACING OF DESIGNATED STREETS ; AND , AUTHORIZING CITY CLERK TO CALL FOR BIDS <br /> THEREFOR , seconded by Councilman Arnett , <br /> Councilman Henderson questioned reason for work on Roosevelt Avenue ending at <br /> McGarvey , since trench resulting from current drainage project ends beyond , in middle <br /> of Alameda de las Pulgas . <br /> 'U 28 '69 <br />
