Motion carried , Councilman Rosselli voting no <br /> Councilman Petersen moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO . 6116 APPROVING SPECIFICATTC_ NS <br /> FOR POSITION OF ASSISTANT PURCHASER , seconded by Councilman Henderson and <br /> carried on roll call vote , Councilman Rosselli voting no , Councilman Weymouth <br /> being noted absent . <br /> Councilman Keckley moved to introduce Ordinance repealing Section 23 . 17 of , <br /> adding Section 23 . 3 to , and amending Sections 23 . 2 , 23 . 4 , 2. 3 . 5 , and 23 . 16 <br /> of Chapter 23 of the Code of the City of Redwood City relating to responsibilities <br /> of City Manager , Director of Personnel and Personnel. Board , seconded by Council - <br /> man Arnett and carried , Councilman Rosselli voting no . <br /> Ampex Expansion Pro ; ram discussion . City Manager advised in his recent report <br /> to Council he had presented the scope of the work that had been done 'car Staff <br /> relative to Ampex ' s request to abandon a portion of Broadway to accomodate <br /> ;/ <br /> expansion of their plant to include a new International Corporate Headquarters <br /> building . He stated discussions held primarily as to the possible location <br /> and design of a frontage road which would provide a traffic -way parrallel to <br /> Broadway to accomodate traffic now utilizing Broadway itself . He advised <br /> Staff and Ampex had now agreed on a proposed alignment and cross section of this <br /> frontage road , and that the agreement between City and Ampex for abandonment <br /> of a portion of Douglas Avenue provides that this frontage road will be con- <br /> structed only in the event that Broadway is abandoned . <br /> He advised that Ampex had now notified City that their planning for this <br /> expansion did include the abandonment of Broadway and they now awaited a <br /> decision from the Council whether this could be accomplished before further <br /> planning could proceed . He stated this proposal had been presented before the <br /> Planning Commission at a study meeting in order to obtain their views before <br /> presentation to Council and that slides had been prepared indicating proposed <br /> routing of traffic , if Broadway to be abandoned . <br /> Planning Director explained proposed expansion of Ampex for a campus - type complex <br /> which could not be accommodated unless this portion of Broadway abandoned , as <br /> traffic would penetrate through center of complex as it presently exists . <br /> He reminded that portion of Douglas had already been abandoned and which ended <br /> in cul -de - sacs at either end .
