On question , Councilman Arnett questioned possibility of a report being <br /> given on what might be expected in monetary gains to City, should funds be appro- <br /> priated for this program, in way of business returns through increased tax revenues . <br /> Councilman Petersen asked for difference in cost estimates to City with and with- <br /> out the inclusion of the carnival proposal , also expr. essin7 concerns for otber <br /> costs to City connected with Christmas decoration being installed by City employees , <br /> etc , Motion carried ( MIYUTE ORDER #6n _2C ; ) <br /> Report and recommendation of Transportation Committee . <br /> Councilman Petersen , Chairman of Committee , reported on proposal for benches at <br /> all bus stops and suggestion made to approach Inter-Service Council to determine <br /> those organizations which might be interested in such a community-wide project . <br /> He advised system could use an additional 30 benches and that Staff had been <br /> requested to obtain an estimate of costs in order that interested service <br /> organizations could be presented with such facts . <br /> He advised recommendation also now being made by the Committee for an. " exact fare " <br /> policy which had been reviewed thoroughly by the Committee for some time and now <br /> recommended for Council approval as being in the hest interest of the City and the <br /> bus drivers , <br /> In reply to question of whether tokens h. 1 been considered , he advised this too <br /> has been reviewed by Committee and study will continue , but that so far Committee <br /> had not recommended their use as tokens purchased elsewhere could be used , be - <br /> sides fact . 10¢ fare also in ur. e by young adults during school commute hours . <br /> He realized some problems might still he involved with " exact " fare " policy but <br /> felt in long run system will benefit by fact making of change by drivers did delay <br /> tightly run schedule , and would relieve drivers from carrying cash . <br /> David West , 721 Alameda, questioned whether there had been <br /> any experience involving danger to drivers because of <br /> carrying cash , as felt exact fare would work a hardship on <br /> senior citizens . <br /> p. <br /> Councilman Petersen felt that the senior citizens are so delighted with the present <br /> bus system that support had already been indicated , and felt only problems would <br /> result from the occasional rider of the buses . Councilman Kerkle,.,T , as member of <br /> Committee , felt it better to take this type of precaution on exact fare policy <br /> 20 '69 <br />
