It was also noted written
protests had been filed by four property owners , aggregating 61 . 66% of the a-
ssessed valuation, and unless written withdrawals of protests sufficient to reduce
the percentage to less than 50% were received prior to close of this public hear-
ing , proceedings must be terminated .
City Clerk reported a communication had been received from one of the protestants :
Mr . and Mrs . Henry Miller , 622 Vista Drive , requesting
a six week continuance of this public hearing in order
to complete the negotiations commenced for a 25 ' access
easement to his property at the end of the Laurel Way
cul -de -sac , He further advised he would at that time
present a written withdrawal of his present protest to
these annexation proceedings .
Councilman Arnett moved to continue the public hearing to date requested , April
7 , 1969, seconded by Councilman Rosselli .
Mr . Charles Durkee , 13 .0 Sierra Street , the owner of
property proposed to be annexed , asked whether it
would be possible to hold the public hearing earlier
than April 7 , if Mr . Miller ' s problems were resolved
sooner .
City Attorney recommended Council set a shorter continuance period because public
hearing could again be continued should negotiations not be completed at the
earlier date .
Mr . Henry Miller appeared to relate more specifically
the loan negotiations he was attempting to finalize
on his property , and indicated it was possible problem
might be resolved at an earlier date .
Councilman Arnett thereupon restated his motion to continue this public hearing
for two weeks , to March 17, 1969 , seconded by Councilman Rosselli and carried ,
( MINUTE ORDER #69-36 )
Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO , 5911 APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING EXECUTION
OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AND AMPEX CORPORATION FOR CONSTRUCTION
OF CERTAIN CUL-DE-SACS - DOUGLAS AVENUE, seconded by Councilman Arnett and carried
on roll call vote , Councilman Petersen being noted absent .
PUBLIC HEARING , Resolution of Intention to abandon a portion of Douglas Avenue , declared
open and affidavits of publication and posting ordered filed . It was noted Resolution
of Intention had been adopted on January 27 , 1969, setting this matter for public
hearing .
Mr . Robert Owens , representing Sears Roebuck and Company, and
their warehouse operation located at end of a portion of Doug-
las Avenue , advised of their intent to fully cooperate with
expansion plans of Ampex Corporation but questioned what plans
had been developed for handling traffic in this area ; whether
Douglas Avenue to be relocated , and effect to the area should
portion of Broadway also be abandoned , as had been suggested ,
because all such proceedings would affect their operation .
City Manager advised a full traffic study had not been made of this area as abandon-
ment of portion of Broadway may not even become a fact as was only being discussed
as a possibility at this point . He pointed out this action only pertained to aband-
onment of the portion of Douglas Avenue between two open ends to be fully improved
with cul -de -sacs by Ampex Corporation , He further advised this street had initially
been constructed to serve individually-owned parcels , but since that time , Ampex
Corporation had acquired the property on both sides of this portion of Douglas Avenue
besides holding lease options on other buildings adjacent thereto , with Sears Roebuck
vcs 24 '69
