Civic Cultural Commission Page 3 Minutes of May 2, 2002 Commissioner Britschgi stated the Commission usually does not fund transportation costs, and asked if the Commission could help fund the cost of renting Canada College for the festival. -Raices de Mexico No representative was present. -Redwood City Kiwanis Farmers Market No representative was present. -Historic Resources Advisory Committee Mike O'Brien of the Historic Resources Advisory Committee spoke on behalf of their grant request of $1,000 to help fund their 8th annual historical tour for Redwood City 7th grade students. This tour is part of National Preservation Week and over 700 students will participate in this year's event, and the grant will provide lunch to the students after the tour. Mr. O'Brien announced that the amount of the grant request has been decreased to $450.00 because a local grocery store has donated food to the event. ITEM 2 - SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS -Budget Chairperson Dale announced that one of the Council Members expressed her pleasure with our strategic plan and inquired about how the Commission would spend the additional budget increase for FY 02-03 and FY 03-04. He suggested that the Commission develop a plan for the increased budget. Director Centeno announced that due to the City's financial situation, all department budgets are only allowed a 2% increase for this budget cycle. She suggested the Commission's Budget Sub-Committee meet to develop a plan which could be presented at the June meeting. The Council will be holding budget hearings in June-July and will approve the final City budget in July. Chairperson Dale asked staff to provide the sub-committee with a listing large grants for this current year and the past year. Commissioner Ball will set the meeting with Commissioner Britschgi and Chairperson Dale. -Children and Schools Chairperson Dale provided an update of the Sequoia High School music program. The Commission has been invited to participate on a search committee for a new music teacher at Sequoia. -Cultural Commission Sponsored Events Chairperson Dale thanked staff for their work on the Art Contest and awards program.
