Civic Cultural Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of May 2, 2002 <br /> Commissioner Britschgi stated the Commission usually does not fund <br /> transportation costs, and asked if the Commission could help fund the cost of <br /> renting Canada College for the festival. <br /> -Raices de Mexico <br /> No representative was present. <br /> -Redwood City Kiwanis Farmers Market <br /> No representative was present. <br /> -Historic Resources Advisory Committee <br /> Mike O'Brien of the Historic Resources Advisory Committee spoke on behalf <br /> of their grant request of $1,000 to help fund their 8th annual historical tour <br /> for Redwood City 7th grade students. This tour is part of National <br /> Preservation Week and over 700 students will participate in this year's event, <br /> and the grant will provide lunch to the students after the tour. Mr. O'Brien <br /> announced that the amount of the grant request has been decreased to <br /> $450.00 because a local grocery store has donated food to the event. <br /> ITEM 2 - SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Budget <br /> Chairperson Dale announced that one of the Council Members expressed her <br /> pleasure with our strategic plan and inquired about how the Commission <br /> would spend the additional budget increase for FY 02-03 and FY 03-04. He <br /> suggested that the Commission develop a plan for the increased budget. <br /> Director Centeno announced that due to the City's financial situation, all <br /> department budgets are only allowed a 2% increase for this budget cycle. <br /> She suggested the Commission's Budget Sub-Committee meet to develop a <br /> plan which could be presented at the June meeting. The Council will be <br /> holding budget hearings in June-July and will approve the final City budget in <br /> July. Chairperson Dale asked staff to provide the sub-committee with a <br /> listing large grants for this current year and the past year. Commissioner <br /> Ball will set the meeting with Commissioner Britschgi and Chairperson Dale. <br /> -Children and Schools <br /> Chairperson Dale provided an update of the Sequoia High School music <br /> program. The Commission has been invited to participate on a search <br /> committee for a new music teacher at Sequoia. <br /> -Cultural Commission Sponsored Events <br /> Chairperson Dale thanked staff for their work on the Art Contest and awards <br /> program. <br /> 'Tis the Season <br /> Nothing to report at this time. <br />
