ITEM 4-FOLLOW-UP REPORTS
-Statistics on Adult Day Care Facilities
Superintendent Hartman reviewed the information sent by Debbi Jones-
Thomas regarding Rosener House and Catholic Charities. She also spoke
with a representative from Rosener House this week and was advised that
they are licensed for 60 people per day and currently average 43 people per day
and would be able to accommodate additional people in their program. She
also spoke with Denise Hobson of Catholic Charities who stated they are
licensed for 40 people per day and average 29 people per day and also can
accommodate additional participants. Ms. Hobson was interested in doing
some outreach at both senior centers and Supervisor Griffith agreed to contact
her. Superintendent Hartman felt that since each facility has openings, they
have never had waiting lists, and there is no lack of service, there is no
reason for Redwood City to try to duplicate this type of service.
Supervisor Griffiths said she is organizing a caregiver support group in
partnership with Rosener House in addition to an Alzheimer's support
group with the Alzheimer Association. Some people who come to the senior
centers need to be in a different type of facility such as adult day care and
hopefully this outreach will help them make the transition.
Commissioner Newell suggested the Commission sponsor a half-day
Caregiver Fair targeted at Redwood City families. A number of agencies
would be invited to set-up information tables at the Veterans Memorial
Senior Center for the event and he offered to help with the project.
Press releases could be sent to various newspapers and local employers, such
as San Mateo County, could be contacted to notify their employees.
Commissioner Newell said he would still like to know how many Redwood
City residents are in the Catholic Charities program and according to their
report they served 20 Redwood City residents in 93-94.
ITEM 5-APPLICATIONS/RECRUITMENT FOR SAC APPOINTMENTS
It was mentioned that the City Clerk's Office distributed applications for all
boards and commissions at each City facility. Commissioner Anthony agreed
to contact several potential applicants for the Senior Affairs Commission.
Superintendent Hartman announced the City Council will now be doing
individual interviews for all vacancies. She stressed that each Commissioner
needs to do a personal recruitment for potential applicants.
ITEM 6-REPORT FROM HOUSING AND HUMAN CONCERNS
COMMITTEE
Commissioner Newell reported that he and Commissioner Capone were not
selected to the Housing and Human Concerns Committee due to their recent
