paratransit issues and various community groups are represented on this
committee. Mr. Cohn said two members are available at (415) 508-6275 to
listen to complaints about the Rediwheels service.
PCC member Noreen Donohue said she takes Rediwheels daily and must call
every day to arrange transportation for the following day. She said most of
the callers are placed on "standby" until 7:00pm but she felt the service was
pretty good. She felt that consumer boards like PCC will make a difference in
the Rediwheels program.
Superintendent Hartman asked about complaints received on Rediwheels
drivers and was told to direct those complaints to SamTrans. Jack Anthony
said he felt that there are many problems with the Rediwheels program and
that SamTrans has a long way to go to resolve those issues. He said TRIPS
was formed as a result of the problems with the Rediwheels program. The
Commissioners discussed ways to try and improve the program and were
advised to attend the next SamTrans Board meeting on May 15 at 2:00pm at
the SamTrans Board Room in San Carlos. Marianne Mannia will be making
a presentation at the meeting and would appreciate the support. The
Commissioners also discussed speaking with Supervisors Huening and
Nevin regarding Rediwheels issues. Commissioner Walsh requested an
official list of complaints and would be willing to call the two supervisors if
he had the proper supporting documentation.
M/S Newell/Capone: To go on record as being concerned about the state of
paratransit in San Mateo County for seniors and others;
Commissioners will contact the appropriate elected officials to
register a complaint on behalf of the Senior Affairs Commission.
Motion passed.
ITEM 2-REPORT ON HUMAN SERVICE ASSISTANCE &CDBG GRANTS
Jack Anthony reported he attended the funding meeting which lasted 5
hours. Many groups received funding including RSVP. It was noted that
TEWCI requested $70,000 but only received $30,000 for the Fair Oaks Senior
Center program; last year they received $35,000. Mr. Anthony mentioned that
when the funding requests go for approval to the City Council, applicants can
appear at that time to request more funds.
Commissioner Newell indicated that if anyone needs help with home care,
he can be contacted as a resource.
ITEM 3-UPDATE ON SEQUOIA HOSPITAL DECISION
Catholic Healthcare West was selected as the firm to purchase Sequoia
Hospital.
