The minutes of the meeting of January 21 , 1935 , were approved on motion of Councilman Eva , seconded by Councilman Christensen. In connection with the bids for cast iron pipe , the City Manager made the following report and recommendation: " In accordance with our advertisement for bids on cast iron pipe and fittings , the following sealed proposals were submitted : R. E. Olson , 20$8 , 87th Avenue , Oakland ( For fittings only) $ 459 . 00 American Cast Iron Pipe Company , San Francisco (For pipe and fittings ) 19 ,W4g . 40 Enterprise Foundry Company , San Francisco ( For fittings only ) 64g . 00 United States Pipe and Foundry Company , San Francisco (For pipe and fittings ) lg , gg4. 90 Grinnell Company , San Francisco ( For pipe and fittings ) 20 , 5914. g0 Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company , San Francisco (For pipe and fittings ) 19 , 945. 5g Utilities Supply Company , Los Angeles (For pipe and fittings ) 19 , 658 . 02 After due consideration of all bids received. , it is our recommendation that the above contract be awarded to the UNITES STATES PIPE AND FOUNDRY COL ANY of San Francisco for the sum of $18 , g84. 90 , this being the lowest bid based on the unit prices submitted. " On motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by Councilman Jones , the contract for the pipe was awarded to the United States Pipe and Foundry Company of San Francisco on the basis of their bid as recommended by the City Manager , and the Clerk was instructed to return the certified checks of the unsuccessful bidders . In another communication , the City Manager reviewed the agreement with the City of Berkeley for certain fire apparatus and explained that it now seemed necessary , in lieu of a sale of the property to Redwood City , to enter into a Lease by which the City would pay $50 a year. In line with his recommendation , the first payment of $50 was authorized and the City Manager
