22;3 <br /> MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> AUGUST 17 , 1936 <br /> 8 : 00 P. M. <br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor , Paul A. McCarthy , L. C. <br /> Christensen , E. A. Fletcher, Wm. Hohn , R. N. Jones , Geo . W. McNulty and City Clerk , <br /> B. E. Myers. Absent : J. M. Eva. <br /> The minutes of the meeting of August 3 and the adjourned meeting of August 10 , 1936, were <br /> approved as mailed, on motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman Hohn. <br /> The City Manager filed an explanatory statement with the Council concerning the amount of <br /> expenditures in previous years and those contemplated for 1936-1937 , which figures <br /> showed an excess contrary to law, and the City Manager was instructed to write to the <br /> Board of Equalization to ask permission to include these figures as the excess was <br /> created for W.P.A. projects. <br /> The City Manager filed a report concerning the changing of the settling tank into a public <br /> swimming pool , but as the cost suggested by the City Manager seemed excessive , it was <br /> thought best to do nothing about it at this time , but to put the discussion on the <br /> agenda for a meeting in May of next year. The preliminary report was accepted and <br /> ordered filed. <br /> William C. McCarthy , Publicity Director for the County Floral Fiesta , asked permission to <br /> suspend a sign over El Camino Real , probably near the Broadway entrance to Redwood <br /> City. On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Hohn, permission <br /> was granted provided he obtain the consent of the Highway Commission and arrange <br /> suitable public liability insurance. <br /> The adoption of the amendment to the Pound Ordinance came up for discussion but in view of <br /> opposition manifested the matter was put over until the meeting of September 21 . <br /> On motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by Councilman Christensen , Ordinance amending <br /> Salary Ordinance was unanimously adopted. <br /> On motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Jones , Ordinance fixing the amount <br /> of money to be raised by taxation for the ensuing fiscal year was unanimously adopted. <br /> In connection with the water pipe line serving residents in the vicinity of Whipple and <br /> Cordilleras Roads , the City Manager was instructed , on motion of Councilman Hohn , <br /> seconded by Councilman Fletcher , to negotiate with the persons interested to take over <br /> this property provided the City could do it free of all obligations. <br /> Harry Jenkins , representing the Floral Fiesta, appeared before the Council toask that <br /> Redwood City take exhibit space. On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Coun- <br /> cilman Christensen , it was agreed to take the minimum space costing $50.00 and the <br /> allocation of the charge be Unbudgeted Reserve . <br /> Discussion was had concerning the marking of the Bayshore Highway as "U. S . 101 " and as such <br /> marking was considered undesirable , on motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by <br /> Councilman Jones , it was decided to write the California State Highway Commission, San <br /> Francisco , asking if anything could be done to retain the "101 " marking on El Camino <br /> Real . <br />
