M. <br /> Upon roll call the following Councilmen were present : Councilmen L . C . Christensen , <br /> J . M. Eva , E . A . Fletcher , Wm. Hohn , R . N . Jones , G. W. McNulty , Mayor Paul A . <br /> McCarthy , and City Clerk B . E . Myers . <br /> The minutes of the meeting of December 6 and the adjourned meeting of December 13 as <br /> corrected were approved on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman <br /> Christensen. <br /> In a letter to the City Council , City Manager Dimmitt recommended that Grant and Hoffmann , <br /> contractors for the improvement of Hiliview Avenue , be given an extension of time <br /> of 6 months due to their inability to complete their work because of too much rain. <br /> While it was considered not necessary to extend the time 6 months from the original <br /> completion date of January lg , it was decided , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , <br /> seconded by Councilman McNulty , to extend the time of the completion of the contract <br /> to May 1 , 193g . <br /> The City Tax Collector in a letter to the Council , asked for instruction concerning the <br /> interpretation of Ordinance No . 76 , Section 7 , setting up the license fee for pool <br /> rooms and bowling alleys , and , in particular , referred to the request of J . C . Dodge , <br /> operating a bowling alley at 2116 Broadway, Redwood City . After considerable dis- <br /> cussion concerning the reasonableness of the ordinance and its applicability to the <br /> various businesses affected, it was finally decided, on motion of Councilman Fletcher , <br /> seconded by Councilman Hohn, that the City Tax Collector be instructed to charge the <br /> various businesses according to the ordinance , effective January 1 , 193g , with <br /> Councilman Eva voting "No . " <br /> W. M . Rosenblum, representing the Tidewater Associated Oil Company , explained to the <br /> Council that the man who had requested and obtained permission to locate a service <br /> station on the northeast corner of Hopkins Avenue and El Camino Real had been unable <br /> to carry on and that now the company wished to construct a station there . He was <br /> referred to the Planning Commission with the intimation that there seemed to be no <br /> reason why , if his plans were acceptable to the Planning Commission , the construction <br /> could not go on . <br /> On motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman Eva , the City Treasurer was <br /> authorized to transfer from the General Improvement Fund of 1937 , commonly known as <br /> the 1915 Act Investment Fund , approximately $20 , 000 to meet the service requirements <br /> of this Improvement Bond Fund of 1937 for the current year less a 10¢ levy included <br /> in the budget and any moneys already in the fund . <br />
