314 MINUTES OF REGULAR ADJOURNED MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL AUGUST 9 , 1937 g : 00 P . M . Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor Paul A. McCarthy , -- Councilmen J . M. Eva, E . A. Fletcher , R. N . Jones , elm. Hohn, and G. W. McNulty , and City Clerk B . E . Myers . Absent : Councilman L. C . Christensen, This meeting was called principally for the final discussion of the budget for the ensuing fiscal year. The first item was consideration of the budget made up by the Port Manager , approved by the Port Commission , and submitted to the City Manager . After discussion and some explanation by the Port Manager , it was decided to accept the budget as submitted omitting the item of $4 , 200 for a lift truck. This was done on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Jones , and carried, with Councilman McNulty voting "No" and Councilman Hohn not voting. On motion of Councilman Jones , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , the City Manager was authorized to include in the budget a 605 levy as one-half of the price of ten acres near to , and desired to be annexed to the harbor lands . In connection with the Water Department budget , discussion ensued concerning the salary paid to A. S. Liguori , and it was decided on motion of Councilman Hohn , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , to reduce his salary to $200 per month effective September 1 . On motion of Councilman Eva , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , the tax ordinance establishing the amount of money to be raised for various governmental purposes including bond requirements , library budget , et cetera was introduced. Final consideration was given to the report of the committee investigating the feasibility and desirability of the City ' s buying the present Central School property for the purpose of transforming the building into a City Hall . Councilman Eva , for the committee , recommended that the City buy this property at a price of $g5 , 000 as offered by the Elementary School District Trustees and allow an estimated $15 ,000 more for alterations ; funds for the purchase and alteration to be raised by bond issue and from any other available sources . Upon submitting the motion , Councilman Eva and Councilman Fletcher voted "Yes" and Mayor McCarthy , Councilman McNulty , Jones , and Hohn voted "No" . Mayor McCarthy reported an interview with Perry Bygdnes , president of the Chamber of Commerce , concerning advertising space in the Redwood City Tribune and for the Harbor Opening Festival and for the San Mateo County Fiesta , and also whether or not the City should enter a float in the Harbor Opening Festival . The matter was referred to the City Manager to obtain a definite recommendation from the Chamber of Commerce . Adjournment . BEM : HAS City Clerk
