Sam Dietrich be given the privilege of con- <br /> structing a service station or the northeast corner of Hopkins Avenue and <br /> El Camino Real , provided thf\.t before the service station be constructed the <br /> Planning Commission approve the piens and specific • tions . It Was decided <br /> on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Eva , that the Council <br /> approve the recommendation as to the locetion only , the matter of building <br /> to be decided later . <br /> In the same letter the Planning Commission recommended that Mr . John McCarthy be <br /> permitted to build a dwelling on the corner of Clinton Street and Harrison <br /> Avenue , with the understanding that the remaining portion of the property <br /> on Harrison Avenue be deeded to the City in consideration of the City ' s <br /> paving the unimproved portion of Harrison Avenue between Clinton and Duane <br /> Streets . After considerable discussior , the Council went or record as <br /> approving the recommendatior of the Planning Commission and agreeing to accept <br /> the property and do the paving mentioned . This on motion of Councilman <br /> Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Jones . <br /> Mrs . H. Bonney appeared before the Council to request that something be done to <br /> eliminate traffic hazards by the construction of underpasses . She particularly <br /> cited tho experience of Palo Alto. The City Manager was asked to investi- <br /> gate the situation and make a report to the Council , including especially, <br /> some statement from the City of Palo Alto , as to its experience . <br /> There was discussed a suggested ordia9nce regulatine the conduct of certain bus- <br /> inesses wherein food and liquor are displayed for public view examination , <br /> or sale , or sold on certain holidays . The suggestion had been presented by <br /> Mr . Charles T . Benja in , legal representative of the organization of Retail <br /> Clerks . Because the operation of such •-:r. ordinance would directly affect <br /> the retail merchants of Redwood City, it w• s decided before any notion was <br /> taken to present the matter to Ehe Retail Merchants division of the Chamber <br /> of Commerce and ask for an expressior of opinion . <br /> After filing Affidavit of Publication , Ordinance ro . 401 , regulating the licensing <br /> of restaurants in Red;•:ood City , w7s adopted on motion of Councilman Christensen, <br /> seconded by Councilman Eva . <br /> After filing Affidavit of Publication , Ordinance No . 402 , requiring the construction <br /> of sidewalks on lots where buildings are to be built or streets now improved <br /> with pavement and curbs , or when buildings are moved to such locations , was <br /> adopted or motion of Councilman Jones , secorded by Councilman Eva. <br /> Mr. R . Lee Otis , the director of the municipal band , addressed the Council supple- <br /> menting a communication containing the articles of organization for the <br /> band and listing equipment which Mr . Otis considers necesstry to the best <br />
