" <br /> On motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Fletcher , it was decided to <br /> increase the contribution to the American Red Cross from $75 to $100 , and the <br /> treasurer was instructed to make up claim and warrant accordingly . <br /> There came up again discussion of the question of removing two oak trees from the <br /> circular park at the intersection of broadway , Arch, and Brewster. Councilman <br /> Eva again moved that these two trees be taken out of the park because they inter- <br /> fered with the growth of a cedar tree . M. <br /> Upon roll call the following Councilmen were present : Councilmen L . C . Christensen , <br /> J . M. Eva, E . A. Fletcher , Wm. Hohn , R. Y. Jones , G. W. McNulty , Mayor Paul A. <br /> McCarthy , and City Clerk B . E . Myers . <br /> The minutes of the meeting of November 1 and special meeting of November g were approved <br /> on motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Hohn . <br /> Mr . Julius Smith appeared before the Council and talked on three subjects , namely; <br /> 1 . Whether or not the City could do anything about the amount of taxes levied <br /> within the city limits by San Mateo County , <br /> 2. Whether or not the City would like to reconsider taking over the present <br /> school property on Broadway , and <br /> 3 . Protesting the City assessment on the property at the northeast corner of <br /> Arguello and Broadway . Mr. Smith considered it altogether too high . <br /> The question of the county tax was laid over until the next meeting. No action <br /> was taken about the old school building , but on his third point Mr . Smith was <br /> asked to write a letter canerning the assessment to the City Assessor , upon <br /> receipt of which the City Assessor could make a report to the Council . <br /> The question of extension and paving of Valota Road again came up for discussion , and <br /> it was finally decided on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman <br /> Eva, that if Mrs . Pinotti did not by next Monday , November 22 , come to some <br /> agreement about the right-of-way through her land , the City Attorney be authorized <br />
