There was read a letter from Carl W. Anderson, Burlingame attorney, and also a claim <br /> of Caroline Noble Howard , 1452 Valota Street , Redwood City, California , for the <br /> sum of $10,000 allegedly due for injuries sustained September 17, 1938 , near <br /> Redwood Avenue and El Camino Real , Redwood City . There was also submitted copy <br /> of letter by the City Manager submitting the claim to the Indemnity Insurance <br /> Company of North America and also form of acknowledgement of the claim on the <br /> part of the insurance carrier . On motion of Councilman Anderson , seconded by <br /> Councilman McNulty, the claim of Mrs . Howard was rejected . <br /> Joe Farr of the Veterans of Foreign Wars asked the Council to cooperate in getting <br /> bicycle riders to be more careful for their own sake as well as the general <br /> public . It was decided to consider these proposals and take them up at the next <br /> meeting . <br /> A . Lueger and Harry Miller , representing the local Carpenters Union, made a special <br /> plea that local mechanics be hired on the forthcoming construction of the City <br /> Hall and Library . They were assurred by the Council and the City Manager that <br /> everything possible would be done to see that local men had preference . In con- <br /> nection with the discussion about hiring local men, it was decided , on motion of <br /> Councilman Anderson , seconded by Councilman McNulty, to have 2 Councilmen appoint- <br /> ed to serve with the Manager for the purpose of interviewing those in charge of <br /> the federal employment office at San Mateo to urge that Redwood City mechanics <br /> be given preference for work done in Redwood City . The Clerk was also instructed <br /> to get off a letter to the Building Trades Council to the same effect . <br /> Mr . C . F . Tammany asked permission to sell on the highway, within Redwood City, Sail-o- <br /> Planes ; permission was given on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Council- <br /> man Anderson, revocable at the pleasure of the Council . <br /> Mr . Charles B . Mish asked the Council whether or not there was being followed up the <br /> provision requiring all property owners putting up new houses on streets where <br /> pavement and curbs are in to build sidewalks in front of their property, as he <br /> knew certain persons who claimed they did not have to do so . He was assurred that <br /> such regulations would be followed . Lets covered ga - t fexe4 on tae 41 <br /> The City Collector submitted letter accompanying 626 tax deeds and appropriate accept- <br /> ance resolutions . On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, <br /> the resolutions accepting the deeds were unanimously adopted and the Clerk instructed <br /> to record all deeds . <br /> There was ordered filed affidavit of C . Drathman, Building Inspector of. the City of <br /> Redwood City, showing that he had posted "Notice to Abate Nuisance" , and had also <br /> mailed a copy of said notice by registered mail to the owners of certain property <br /> 449 I <br />
