On motion of Councilman Eva , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , <br /> it was decided to have a special meeting , early in .;larch, with the Assessor to arrml-;e <br /> for some adjustment in the acreage unit prices . <br /> U . J. Walker , Attorney of Los Angeles , by letter , addressed the Council concerning the levy- <br /> ing of a special assessment to take care of a defaulted bond under the 1915 Act . Retly <br /> to the letter was referred to the City Attorney . <br /> The Citizens ' Advisory Board , by its Chairman , Borman ," . Pendleton , filed a report concerning <br /> its activities and especially concerning the renort of a sub—con i ttee on " The Possibi- <br /> lities of Tax Reduction Through the Public Ownership of Additional Public Utilities " . <br /> The letter was ordered riled and the discussion laid over until a further meeting . <br /> The Citizens ' Advisory Board , by its Secretary , C. G . U lenberg , filed a report on the consoli- <br /> dation of City and County Tax Assessing and Tax Collecting offices acconnanied by reports <br /> of special committees . The report was ordered filed. <br /> There was read a letter from C . W . Bowman , Recording Secretary of the San Mateo County Federa- <br /> tion of Improvement Clubs and Associations , protesting the levying of any special assess- <br /> ment for the payment of 1915 Act delinquencies . On motion of Councilman Jones , seconded <br /> by Councilman McNulty , the correspondence was filed without consideration. <br /> On motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Eva, the Council unanimously adopted <br /> Ordinance No . 352 , amendin a previous ordinance , No . 327 , concerni-n„ penalties on de— <br /> linqu.ent taxes . (See Ordinance book for full text . ) <br /> The City Attorney reported concerning his interview with E. C . Stewart at Stockton, reading a <br /> memorandum to which he and Mr . Steuart had agreed . On notion of Councilman Jones , seconded <br /> by Councilman McNulty , the Council ratified and approved that portion of the agreement in <br /> which it was determined to pay certain bonds with accrued interest , and interest on other <br /> bonds up to July, 1934 . <br /> W . 0 . Tyson , local contractor , appeared before the Council to protest the city ' s resurfacing <br /> the tennis courts on the ;rounds of the Sequoia Union High School , alleging that in doing <br /> this the City was competing with private contractors . <br /> At this time , the City Manager presented the Budget for the ensuing year , that the Council <br /> might examine it and adopt it , having previously submitted a tentative budget for their <br /> consideration . Councilman Eva requested that quite a number of small items be eliminated <br /> or reduced and it was agreed to change several such items amaanting to $530 . There was <br /> also considerable discussion about the ch rce of the Water Department for water supplied <br /> for general city purposes such as Parks , Fire Department , Police Department , etc . Finally , <br /> on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Christensen , it was decided to <br /> dispense with such charges , effective July 1 , 1934. The notion carried with Mayor Lambert <br /> and Councilman McCarthy voting "No " . With these items out of the way , on motion of Coun- <br /> cilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Jones , the Budget t:..ms corrected was unanimously <br /> adopted. <br />
