Absent : None . <br /> The minutes of the meeting of August 20 , 1934, were approved on motion of Councilman Chris- <br /> tensen, seconded by Councilman Eva. <br /> . — M . L. Reese , living at 621 Heller Street , asked if some arrangement could be made for him <br /> to use some of the buildings at the Old Corporation Yard for the purpose of running <br /> a secondhand store . On motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Eva, <br /> the matter was left in the hands of the City Manager, with authority to make whatever <br /> arrangement he saw fit . <br /> An offer was received from Crowell , Weedon & Co . , of Los Angeles , offering Series K—S , 1915 <br /> Act Bonds , at a price of 65 . V. N. Lundy, representinr; Davis Skaggs 8 Co . of San <br /> Francisco , was present and also made an offer for the same bonds at 56 . On motion of <br /> Councilman .McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Eva, the City Treasurer was authorized to <br /> purchase these bonds amounting almost to $3 , 000 at the price offered, borrowing the <br /> necessary ftiinds from the Water Department . <br /> After filing Notice of Publication , Ordinance No . 353 , establishing the tax rate for the <br /> ensuing year , was unanimously adopted on motion of Councilman Jones , seconded by Coun- <br /> cilman McNulty. <br /> The matter of closing Maple , Beech, Cedar and Chestnut Streets came up for further discus- <br /> sion . Councilman Fletcher presented a petition which had been handed to him from <br /> quite a number of property owners , requesting that the Council protest the closing of <br /> Cedar and Chestnut Streets . Councilman Fletcher indicated that he would oppose the <br /> closing of any of the streets . Councilman McCarthy reminded the other members of the <br /> movement for eliminating grade crossings wherever possible , and the dangers to human <br />
