31 <br /> MINUTES OF SPECIAL ADJOURNED MEETING <br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> JULY 10, 1933 <br /> g: 00 P .M . <br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor , W. J. Dusel , H. A. Beeger , <br /> R. N. Jones , C. J. Hildebrant , Paul A. McCarthy , Geo. W. McNulty, City Clerk, B . E. Myers , <br /> Absent : C . G. Lambert . <br /> As requested, Charles Foley appeared before the Council in connection with his establishment <br /> at the corner of Broadway and Hamilton Streets . He explained that at the time of his <br /> opening he had not been able to put in all the furniture and equipment he had intended <br /> and that at present there were tables and chairs and he planned to put in stools at the <br /> bar and also to serve sandwiches of different kinds . This explanation satisfied the <br /> Council . <br /> Wm. Jamieson asked the Board , in the name of several merchants on Main Street , if the property <br /> across from his building could be cleaned up . He referred to the old unoccupied building <br /> and the condition of the empty lots. <br /> Joe M. Faso , owner of the 0 . K . Garage , took up the question , in a written communication, of <br /> having the telephone pole near , or in front of his garage , removed as it is a menace to <br /> traffic and interfered with the operation of his garage. The City Manager explained that <br /> the facts set forth by Mr. Faso were substantially correct yet it would cost considerable <br /> to remove the pole . It was finally decided , on motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded <br /> by Councilman McNulty , that the City would be willing to remove the pole if Mr. Faso would <br /> stand one-half of the expense. The Clerk was accordingly instructed to write Mr . Faso to <br /> this effect , asking him to deposit $25 . 00 as a guarantee of his willingness to carry out <br /> the project . <br /> Following the reading of a communication from the California Municipal Utilities Association, <br /> Councilman Jones , seconded by Councilman McNulty , offered for adoption the following re- <br /> solution which was unanimously carried . <br /> "WHEREAS , the City of Redwood City owns and operates a Municipal <br /> Water System, a Garbage Collection and Disposal System, and certain Harbor <br /> Facilities , and <br /> WAS , the principle of exemption from taxation of States and <br /> State Agencies has been universally recognized by the Federal Government and <br /> by all individual States , <br /> NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> Redwood City that it go on record as opposed to State taxation of any municipal <br /> receipts . " <br /> Councilman Jones called attention to the excessive speed of automobile drivers . The City Manager <br /> explained that he and the Chief of Police bad this in mind and would try to regulate traffic <br /> at lower rates of speed. <br /> On motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Hildebrant , the First National Bank, <br /> the Bank of America and the San Mateo County Bank were designated as approved depositories <br /> of City funds for the ensuing year. <br />
