Ed Nolan, 2787 Sussex Way, Redwood City, representing Redwood City American <br />Youth Soccer Organization asked Council for financial assistance for the <br />California Thunderbirds of Redwood City Culture Exchange Sponsorship <br />Program and introduced the coach, Judas Faggiolly. <br />Council expressed their appreciation for AYSO and its 1400 members who <br />always represent the City of Redwood City with distinction. <br />M /S: Claire /Stangel to approve $1,000 from the contingency fund to the <br />Thunderbirds for their trip to Denmark and Germany. <br />Carried by unanimous voice vote. <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 90 -091 <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />Mayor La Berge declared a 10- minute recess at 9:55 p.m. <br />Meeting reconvened at 10:05 p.m. <br />-------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />5 a. Sister City Report (301 -15) <br />Frank Lee, Vice President of the Redwood City International, the Sister <br />City and Sister Port Programs, presented a report on the status of the <br />organization and the contacts with the City of Zhuhai, China. Officers <br />are: Yvette Haworth, President; Frank Lee, Vice President; Bob Jean, <br />Secretary; Ed Nordness, Treasurer; and Pete Uccelli, Steve Eng, Lois <br />Kidder, Dick Dodge, Imelda Wong, Marilyn Territo and Bob Bury, Directors. <br />Mr. Lee, in response to Council questions, advised that the International <br />is working with the State Department. <br />b. Mayor La Berge reported on the Seniors Soft Ball Tournament she and <br />Councilman Bury attended on Saturday with 32 teams competing and two from <br />Redwood City winning their categories: Redwood City Reds, 60 years and <br />over; and the Bay Area Angels, 55 to 59 years. Mayor La Berge thanked <br />Recreation Supervisor Bill Wooten for his help and the excellent condition <br />of the playing fields. <br />c. Councilman Claire shared the happy news of his grandmother's 100th <br />birthday and party on July 6th. <br />d. Councilman Murray spoke on behalf of the Council to thank the Peninsula <br />Celebration Association for the wonderful July 4th celebration and for all <br />their hard work that made the day so enjoyable. <br />e. Councilman Murray reported on the actions of the Regional Planning <br />Commission and its reconfiguration and his appointment as the Chairman of <br />the Transportation and Land Use Subcommittee and a member of the Federal <br />Aid Urban Subcommittee. <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 50 Reg.
