2. PUBLIC HEARING - to consider amending Article 30 of the Redwood City Zoning
Ordinance to change the parking requirements for residential and commercial
uses, and to require parking for carpools, vanpools and bicycles (203 -02)
Affidavits of Publication and Mailing are on file in the City Clerk Dept.
Report: Planning Commission, 10/1/90
Planning Director Patterson presented the staff report.
Councilman Murray suggested that linking number of covered parking spaces to
number of bedrooms would not achieve goals. Uses of rooms often change from
the original intent which can result in fewer parking spaces than required
by the ordinance, and suggested staff find another way to regulate parking
spaces, such as linking number of spaces to square footage.
Mayor La Berge declared the public hearing open at 8:05 p.m. and invited
anyone who wished to speak to please do so.
Bruce Albin, 569 Compass Circle, Redwood City spoke in favor of requiring
newly constructed dwellings to have adequate on -site parking, and suggested
stack parking and breezeways as possible alternatives to current
side -by -side requirement.
Mayor La Berge asked if anyone else wished to speak to this issue. No one
else wished to speak.
M /S: Stangel /Murray to close the Public Hearing.
Carried by unanimous voice vote and Hearing was closed at 8:07 p.m.
City Manager Smith advised that staff will work with Council to develop
amendments to ordinance if Council so desires.
Title read.
