T. program. <br /> <br />Ellipse Peninsula AIDS Services - Practical SuoDort Proqram <br />Ellipse is committed to assisting individuals in San Mateo County who are HIV-infected, their family <br />members, loved ones and friends. Through a mix of comprehensive and professional and volunteer <br />support services, Ellipse insists its clients maintain their fullest possible employment, productivity, and <br />participation in the community. $20,000 was requested to support the emergency financial assistance and <br />emergency food programs. <br /> <br />Family Connections <br />Family Connections' mission is to help parents become involved in their children's education and to <br />reduce violence among Iow-income, culturally diverse families. This is done through a tuition frae parent <br />participation preschool. In addition to the preschool activities, Family Connections also offers parent <br />education. $7,000 was requested to support outreach to and participation of Redwood City families in this <br />Menlo Park based program. <br /> <br />Family Service A.qency - Senior Connections <br />Family Service Agency (FSA) is dedicated to the well-being of individuals, families, and the community. <br />FSA currently operates the Fair Oaks Senior Center located at the City's Fair Oaks Community Center. <br />"Senior Connections" is a computer lab which offers basic computer instruction to seniors age 50 and <br />over. It is closely linked to FSA's Senior Employment Program also operated from the Fair Oaks Senior <br />Center. $15,000 was requested to support the provision of free and Iow-cost weekly classes and lab time. <br /> <br />Friends for Youth, Inc. <br />Friends for Youth (FFY) serves at-risk youth throughout San Mateo County by creating and cultivating <br />long-term, one-to-one friendships with adult volunteer mentors. Youth who are physically or emotionally <br />deprived, exhibit delinquent behavior, or are at risk of academic failure are referred through professional <br />agencies. FFY provides ongoing, individualized attention and guidance to support and enrich each <br />friendship. In addition, FFY provides life skills workshops and a group activities program that are <br />designed to expose youth to new options for growth. $8,000 was requested to serve at-risk youth who <br />reside in Redwood City and are referred to the program by local agencies. <br /> <br />Human Investment Proqram (HIP) - Self-Sufficiency Pro.qram <br />The Human Investment Projects (HIP) enables those with special needs - single-parents, children, elderly, <br />disabled, the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless - to live independent, self-sufficient lives <br />in decent, safe, affordable housing. HIP provides the only source of homesharing in the County arid is, for <br />many Redwood City residents, the only resource for affordable housing. $15,000 was requested to <br />support HIP's Self-Sufficiency Program which enables Iow-income families to transition to stable housing <br />by providing them with affordable housing, full case management and support services while they <br />continue their education or job training and/or find employment. <br /> <br />International Institute of SF - San Mateo County Immiqration, Citizenship, and Community Education <br />Proqram <br />The International Institute is the only non-profit agency providing immigration legal services leading toward <br />family reunification and United States citizenship to the residents of Redwood City and the highly <br />populated core of San Mateo County. $30,000 was requested to support the provision of these services <br />to Redwood City residents. <br /> <br />Le,qal Aid Society of San Mateo County - Homesavers/Homebuilders <br />The principal purpose of the Legal Aid Society is to provide high quality legal assistance to Iow income <br />residents of San Mateo County in almost every area of civil law. Common cases could include domestic <br />violence, problems with government agencies, housing, problems with creditors, garnishments, Medi-Cal <br />health benefits, consumer problems, dissolution of marriage, child custody, and landlord-tenant issues. <br />$25,000 was requested to support Legal Aid's assistance to Redwood City residents on landlord-tenant <br />issues and in the area of affordable housing. - <br /> <br />Mills-Peninsula Senior Focus Volunteer Services/RSVP of San Mateo County <br />RSVP provides volunteer opportunities for people age 55 and older with a myriad of experience and <br />interests from all economic, educational, and social backgrounds to serve on a regular basis in a variety of <br /> <br /> <br />
