Redwood City Conversations
Consultant will work with the City to identify up to two (2) guest speakers to present on
key urban design and transportation topics in coordination with the Redwood City
Conversations initiative. The City will pay for any speaker fees and travel costs, secure
the venue(s), and advertise the series.
Deliverables: Attendance at one conference call to brainstorm speaker
topics/ideas. Email or phone contact with up to three (3) speakers (assuming
only two will ultimately be available). Draft and final flyers for each event.
Additional Optional Tasks
• Living Previews: As the Plan nears completion, Consultant could work with the City to select up to
two (2) locations to deploy "living preview" exhibits. These tactical urbanist installations will
illustrate key Plan recommendations and allow the public to walk or bike through the treatment
(such as a traffic circle or cycle track) to better understand how it will operate. They also serve a
practical design role, where operational considerations can be refined and geometric details
adjusted. Finally, emergency services or transit vehicles can test drive the sites as needed.
Living previews can build community consensus for a design and also position the City effectively
for competitive grants. This would include two, one-block or one-intersection treatments and no
permit fees. The City will provide materials (generally available from the maintenance/public
works departments). Consultant will prepare a traffic control plan for each installation and
respond to one round of consolidated comments. Consultant will provide staff to install, monitor,
and take down each site, with an assumed display period of up to four (4) hours.
Deliverables: Draft and final traffic control plans for up to two (2) installations. Installation,
monitoring and take down of up to two (2), four (4)-hour installations.
• Roving outreach exhibit: Consultant will design and build a bilingual outreach exhibit that can
move around to different community buildings throughout the City. The exhibit will be unmanned
and will provide a fun look at the history of transportation in Redwood City, some interactive
elements that educate people about transportation options, and information about the project. it
will direct people to ways to participate via web and social media. The exhibit will be placed in
libraries, parks, and other community building. The exhibit will move approximately five (5) times.
TASK C: EXISTING TRANSPORTATION CONDITIONS
The Consultant team will conduct a detailed assessment of existing policies and
programs as well as existing travel conditions within the City. This information will be
used to help draw comparisons to other jurisdictions within the Bay Area to help frame
Redwood City's transportation demands in the larger context of the Bay Area.
Consultant will leverage work from existing City planning efforts to the extent possible
for this task. Consultant will utilize infographics to help summarize existing conditions
and provide an opportunity to effectively communicate the City's transportation needs to
the public.
ATTY/AGR/2016.308/FEHR & PEERS CITYWIDE TRANSPORTATION PLAN
REV: 11-03-16 VR
