6.3.E. - Page 41 <br />16.18.1 An employee who commences a scheduled vacation period and subsequently becomes ill before <br />his or her vacation period has been completed shall be placed on sick leave under the following <br />conditions: <br />16.18.1.1 The employee has the requisite amount of accrued, unused sick leave and <br />otherwise qualifies for sick leave as provided by this Agreement; and, <br />16.18.1.2 The employee, if no longer ill, returns to duty immediately following the vacation <br />period; and, <br />16.18.1.3 The employee's illness is verified by a statement from an accredited medical <br />doctor for each such day of sick leave requested. <br />16.18.2 When the employee's vacation leave is converted to sick leave, the appropriate credit of vacation <br />leave shall be restored to the employee's earned vacation balance, and a reasonable opportunity <br />to utilize this vacation leave credit shall be provided within the City's existing practices. <br />16.19 Recognized Holidays <br />16.19.1 The following are the recognized holidays: <br />New Year's Day <br />Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (observed on the third Monday in January) <br />Presidents' Day (observed on the third Monday in February) <br />Memorial Day (observed on the last Monday in May) <br />Independence Day <br />Labor Day (observed on the first Monday in September) <br />Veterans Day (observed November 11) <br />Thanksgiving Day <br />The Day After Thanksgiving <br />Christmas Eve <br />Christmas Day <br />New Year's Eve <br />16.19.2 Two administrative holidays and such other days as may be proclaimed local holidays. <br />Administrative Holidays may only be taken in eight (8) hour increments. At the option of the <br />employee, an employee may receive pay at the employee's straight -time rate of pay in lieu of <br />one or both of the administrative holidays at eight (8) hours per administrative holiday. In the <br />event that one or both of the administrative holidays are not used by the last pay period paid in <br />the year (based on the preceding 26 pay periods), payment will be made no later than the first <br />pay period in February. <br />16.20 Weekend Holidays <br />When any of the above holidays listed in section 16.19.1 fall on Sunday, the following Monday shall be <br />considered the holiday. When any of the above holidays fall on Saturday, the proceeding Friday shall be <br />considered the holiday. <br />16.21 Work on a Holiday <br />18 <br />
