197 <br />will form the new bridge for Bradford Street. An earthen dam, or "plug" will pre- <br />vent tidal waters from backing up into the area of work. The minor quantities of <br />water involved in the normal flow of Redwood Creek at this time of the year will be <br />taken care of by pumping. <br />Bay Road Storm Drain, Unit No. 1, is approximately 90% complete. This is a major <br />system of storm drains and force mains under construction by McGuire & Hester, com- <br />pletion of which will alleviate the long-standing flooding problems in the Broadway - <br />Woodside Expressway -Harbor Boulevard - Bay Road general area. <br />Unit 2 of this project, which consists of the pumping plant, is virtually complete, <br />with the exception of replacement of defective electrical parts. Council, by Minute <br />Order No. 66-120, granted an extension of time for completion of Unit 2 to June 20, <br />1966. <br />Contract documents have been executed by A. E. Mullin Construction Co., the success- <br />ful bidder for alignment of the Jefferson Avenue Branch of Redwood Creek from the <br />Southern Pacific Railroad to Jefferson Avenue. This work will be in full swing in <br />the very near future. <br />City Manager advised all work is on schedule in the three Districts, and emphasized <br />again the quality of the work being performed by Mr. Adamson and his Staff. <br />Councilman Bury asked whether charts showing work schedule, previously submitted <br />i <br />to Council indicating these three project plans, would be updated and resubmitted. <br />City Manager advised new information is to be submitted shortly updating these <br />charts along with other pertinent material. <br />City Manager also advised of another sewer and water combined installation job <br />to be made in areas where resurfacing of streets had been delayed in order that <br />better bids could be obtained in an enlarged construction program. <br />Mrs. Barrentine, of Redwood City Civic Assn., asked <br />if there had been any consultation with Mr. Winans, <br />presently making a park and recreation survey, con - <br />concerning creek areas for parkways and green areas. <br />City Manager stated he knew areas referred to, and that there would be time prior <br />to plans and specifications being prepared for this area, to be fully informed on <br />Mr. Winan's report and recommendations for parks and recreation areas. City Manager <br />went on to report creek area downstream in Clinton Street area and around McKinley <br />School would be gunited and narrowed, which will permit more land for landscaping. <br />He also advised of meetings held with property owners to ascertain their willingness <br />to participate in the cost of complete covering of creek areas where bond funds could <br />not be expended to improve private property. <br />Councilman Bury reminded those present of the Citizens Committee also working with <br />Park and Recreation survey and suggested opinions presented for park areas in cer- <br />tain creek areas should be made direct to either Committee or Mr. Winans. Mayor <br />Herkner reported on tour of inspection of creek area made by Council members, and of <br />Staff being specifically instructed to save trees wherever possible. <br />
