open and affidavits of publication and mailing were ordered filed. Rr=7t of the
Planning Commission was read in t,ihich plan lines as presented were recommended for
Council's approval. Staff Analysis read in which it was stated these plan lines were
originally adopted in 1961 and extended to June 31, 1966, and recommended for re -
adoption. It was also reported an amendment to the plan line at the intersection
of Jefferson Avenue and Middlefield had been made to preclude the necessity of
demolishing a portion of the office building at that intersection by plan line
extending further into the vacant lot on the northerly side of Jefferson.
Councilman Bury questioned whether proposed plan lines should include any provision
for a crossing at Middlefield and Woodside intersection, and was advised they would
have no affect on a pedestrian overpass.
The following appeared:
Phyllis G. Brown, 501 Cedar, protesting need for
Middlefield widening.
Mrs. Thelma Stone, represented by her daughter, 538
Willow Street, questioned pedestrian crossings if
Middlefield widened, and how property could be
developed after acquisition of right-of-way.
Pauline Lopez, 2321 Middlefield Rd., (corner of
Charter and Middlefield) reported on accidents at
this intersection caused by location of a telephone
pole. (City Manager advised he would check this
condition and report to Council). Memo 6/28/66)
Mrs. Olive Granger, 1424 Middlefield, owner of two
parcels of property on Middlefield at the intersection
with Beech, protested traffic congestion prohibited
turning into her garage, and questioned purchase
procedures of City if property acquired for widening.
City Attorney advised Mrs. Granger to contact City offices for further information.
Councilman Petersen stated widening of Middlefield is a safety factor meeting needs
of citizens in area. City Manager advised no funds for actual widening of Middle-
field in budget for this year, there being an appropriation for engineering work
only. He felt improvements to be at least two years hence. City Attorney advised
on acquisition procedures. Councilman Henderson questioned an angled curve at
Theater and Middlefield, and whether any correction could be made. Staff stated
when improvements are made this angle would be corrected.
There being no written communications or further oral protest, Councilman Petersen
moved to close the public hearing, seconded by Councilman Keckley and carried.
Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5075 ESTABLISHING OFFICIAL PLAN
LINES FOR THE WIDENING OF MIDDLEFIELD ROAD BETWEEN THEATRE STREET AND CHARTER STREET.
On question, Councilman Henderson pointed out plan lines proposed only carried out
City's intent for future widening of Middlefield in like manner as that already done
in other portions both in Redwood City and through County areas. Motion seconded
by Councilman Petersen and carried unanimously on roll call vote.
PUBLIC HEARING, Resolution of Intention of the Planning Commission to prezone an uncor-
porated area in the vicinity of Oak Knoll Drive and Canyon Road, being Portions of
Lots 5, 6, 7 and 8, Oak Knoll Manor, declared open and affidavits of publication and
