M
272
Mrs. Robins, 510 Pine Street, questioned estimated
revenues if tax imposed and also presented question
of residents of City purchasing this item elsewhere
if tax imposed not uniform.
After further discussion by Council and comments on uses and need of additional
revenue to City from this proposed tax, matter continued to next week.
Hotel -Motel Occupancy Tax Ordinance. Staff report stated ordinance proposed had
been prepared based on a model ordinance suggested by the League of California
Cities, estimating a revenue of approximately $30,000 on a 4% transient occupancy
tax. Councilman Keckley announced recommendation not available from the Committee
as yet on this issue and suggested same procedure as for preceding item.
Mayor Herkner stated meeting to be held with Mayors of County and Board of Super-
visors next week regarding this matter, but asked that statements be received from
those present.
Jim Miller, Harbor Village, owner of a mobile home,
questioned whether tax pertained to mobile home
owners.
There being no other discussion from those present, Councilman Granger moved that
same action be taken as for Cigarette Tax issue that proposed ordinance not be
considered at this time, seconded by Councilman Henderson and carried. (MINUTE
ORDER #66-185)
Mayor Herkner introduced and welcomed the following present in the audience: John
Curry, representative of San Mateo Times; Dr. Joseph J. Grimes, Superintendent
of Redwood City Schools, and former Councilman Ron Fields.
CLAIM of Linda R. McReynolds, 111 N. Rengstorff Avenue, Mountain View, for property
damages alleged to have been caused by City -owned vehicle was denied and referred
to insurance carrier on motion of Councilman Bury, seconded by Councilman Petersen
and carried. (MINUTE ORDER #66-186)
Councilman Granger commented on number of accidents involving City -owned vehicles and
expressed his concern. City Manager stated a program was being established to give
this problem a close scrutiny and felt it could be helped to a large degree.
CLAIMS, Nos. 57545 to 57729 inclusive, totalling $250,933.35, were approved on motion
of Councilman Bury, seconded by Councilman Henderson and carried.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Announcement from Fire Chief J. L. Lodi of retirement
dinner planned for Willis Leslie on August 20th in the
Fire Dept. and invitation extended to Council.
Councilman Granger questioned easement restrictions in Councilman Bury's neighborhood
which would not permit construction of private swimming pools. Councilman Bury
acknowledged easement restrictions present and provision in ordinance intended to
meet public safety standards, but would agree to a review of this ordinance to see
if too restrictive in this respect.
Councilman Bury moved to adjourn, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried.
Meeting adjourned at 10:15 p.m.
HELEN C. MOORE, City Clerk
