Community Outreach
The goal of community outreach is to encourage all community members to participate
in the process of prioritizing street enhancements in their neighborhood. This will involve
finding creative ways to get feedback from community members that cannot attend the
community meetings. It is also means finding ways to facilitate the participation of non-
English speaker in this process. Each of the neighborhoods: Friendly Acres, North Fair
Oaks (unincorporated county area), and Redwood Village should have equal access to
the process.
Related steps to be taken are shown below:
• Meeting Preparation
o Review outreach processes used to date (what worked, existing email
lists, etc.)
o Identify target audiences and potential communication networks (Project
Website, Social Media Outlets — Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram,
Nextdoor, Snapchat, City Blog, Nixle, Weekly Newsletters, etc.)
o Advertise during community, neighborhood events or phone conversations
o Identify location, date and format for workshops (open house, bike tours,
round table discussion, and community conversation)
o Develop agenda and staff assignments
o Develop NSEP Brand Identity (custom logo to be used on all materials for
project recognition and awareness)
• Youth Interns
o Interview members of Community Council, HOA or community facilities to
identify youths to assist in community meetings.
o Reach out to bilingual/Spanish speaking candidates to review their interest
and confirm availability (identify 2 per neighborhood, ideally).
o Prepare materials and conduct training session with interns.
o Prepare scripts and manage interns during workshops/debriefs.
Community Meeting Facilitation
Meeting dates, times and locations that are most convenient for each of the three
neighborhoods will be selected to encourage wider participation. Community meetings
will be bilingual. For those who cannot attend the meeting in person, we will provide
ample opportunities to provide their feedback on-line, via e-mails, or phone.
• Meeting Preparation
o Identify location, date and format for workshops (open house, bike tours,
round table discussion, and community conversation) as per Outreach
Plan
o Develop agenda and staff assignments
o Preparation of graphic materials/images/presentation
o Preparation of interactive materials for community use during charrette
o Coordination with the City to distribute notices by mail.
