420
Minutes of Regular Weekly Study Meeting
Redwood City Council
January 16, 1967 7:30 P. M.
Meeting called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Herkner.
Veterans Memorial Commission nominations for appointment to two vacancies. Council-
man Rosselli nominated Richard McIntosh for appointment to this Commission.
Mayor Herkner nominated John Weare for reappointment to the Commission. Council-
man Granger stated he was informed Leo Crawford was interested in again serving on
this Commission and asked he also be considered for reappointment. It was pointed
out although there presently were four terms expiring on this Commission, Council
had indicated their intention to reduce Commission from 7 members to 5, leaving
two vacancies for consideration, and an ordinance had been prepared for intro-
duction which would accomplish this. Council proceeded with usual straw ballot
for those nominees submitted for consideration. Action deferred to regular
meeting.
Councilman Rosselli advised of the evident misunderstanding on his request for
information concerning distribution of highway funds. He stated he had referred
particularly to a communication recently received from Don Wilson, County
Engineer, concerning Nolte report, which indicated 23 projects were being recom-
mended for the County, of which 17 were for the Northern part and only 6 for
our Southern part of the County.
City Manager advised he would submit another report on the specific request.
He further advised schedule referred to by Councilman Rosselli covered district
projects considered for whole of County and which had been set up under the Nolte
plan because of the failure of the thirty million dollar County bond issue to cover
all of these proposed projects. He stated the one item which had at that time been
approved consisted of the then proposed under or overpass for El Camino -Whipple,
which had since been discarded but for which Redwood City was to receive credit
for other projects.
Mayor Herkner further clarified fact of the Nolte plan now being in reality
the Greater Highway Commission composed of various City representatives, City
Managers being the Sub -Committee who met regularly and made recommendations to
the Commission. Mayor Herkner advised this item would be deleted from Agenda
until another report submitted covering points requested by Councilman Rosselli.
(Memo 1/17/67)
Councilman Bury questioned the controls and maintenance proposed for the comfort
station intended for Stulsaft Park in order it would be properly maintained.
City Manager stated special controls not yet considered but type of construction
proposed appeared to be of a design which should prevlude problems generally
associated with this type of installation. He stated a method could be arranged
for closing facility by night as no lighting facilities available and park only
used in the daylight period.
City Manager reviewed location proposed for this installation and reasons for
recommending just the one instead of two as previously proposed.
