COMMUNICATIONS:
Invitation from Mayor and Council of the City of Petaluma
to attend their dedication ceremonies of the Petaluma Muni-
cipal Swim Center on April 1, 1967, 2 p.m., Petaluma, Calif.
Acknowledgment of receipt of Council's Resolution $5264 rela-
ting to the Menlo Park -Redwood City Poverty Program, from
Supervisor T. Louis Chess, and stating his hope that this
situation would be clarified to the satisfaction of the City.
Notification from City of Daly City of their adoption of an
attached Resolution requesting the amendment or repeal of
"Matching Funds" Sections of Collier-Uhruh Act, for Council's
information.
Mayor Herkner asked that the Legislative Committee make a recommendation to
Council concerning possible similar action on this subject. Councilman Rosselli
reported Senator Collier had stated his approval of the repeal of this section of
the Act, but that Legislative Committee would make a recommendation. (Memo 3/28/67)
Communication from Sheldon Allen, President of Leslie
Properties, Inc., expressing their Company's pleasure of
State College site in Redwood City having been selected, and
offering their full support.
Request of Chamber of Commerce for commencement of engineering
studies as soon as possible to set plan lines for property ac-
quisition for the construction of Pennsylvania Avenue as a
4 -lane street connecting Winslow St. to Middlefield Road, as a
logical first step in the implementation of the Downtown Plan.
Chamber stated they felt any further delay in the Downtown.
Plan implementation might seriously hurt the economic develop-
ment of the Redwood City downtown district.
Mayor Herkner asked this communication be acknowledged and referred to the Traffic
Committee. Councilman Granger felt streets mentioned in request needed further
checking by the Chamber of Commerce for additional clarification before referring
to the Traffic Committee. Mr. Ed Carlisle, of the Chamber of Commerce further
explained the routing proposed by the Chamber of Commerce. (Memo 3/28/67)
Communication read from former Plice Chief Stanley Wood,
which had been addressed to the Mayor, thanking Council for
action which had resulted in an increase in his retirement
check.
Councilman Granger stated a former policy of the Council which made changing of
street light globes and washing of light fixtures once a year a set procedure and
asked if this procedure could be again considered. City Manager assured Council
this policy would be checked to see if program could be again initiated.
(Memo 3/28/67)
Mayor Herkner, on behalf of Council, thanked Staff and Council College Committee
for splendid work that had been done to assist in obtaining the approval of the
State College Trustees for the site in Redwood City for a State College and the
100% support which had been given by citizens in Redwood City.
City Manager suggested that Council consider adoption of a Resolution thanking and
commending the Public Utility Commission for taking an unprecedented action by
agreeing to sell watershed properties, in order to make selection of the site
possible.
Councilman Granger moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5329 COMMENDING PUBLIC UTILITY
COMMISSION OF CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO FOR MAKING AVAILABLE LAND FOR STATE
COLLEGE IN REDWOOD CITY, seconded by Councilman Rosselli and carried on roll call
vote.
3
PA ::.
