space use had been commenced. Planning Director advised of State legislation
problems on this recommendation which had occurred previously and of the new
legislation now again available which is just now being cautiously exercised in a
few cities in California.
City ATtorney advised copies of each of the amendment ordinances referred to were
now being worked on in his office and had not been presented prior to this time
because of requirement that City have a General Plan.
Councilman Keckley questioned mention made for a proposed 300 acre City Park in
area off of Bayshore Freeway and Whipple area and whether it would be in the realm
of a regional type of park in which the County might participate or whether this was
to be a part of the request to be made for Federal funds, or how proposed for imple-
mentation. Planning Director stated area proposed for a large central park all withih
City limits but not proposed to be all within Redwood Shores District, although
flexible, depending upon what occurred in planning for other side of Bayshore Free-
way.
Planning Director advised this park area could be considered already begun, con-
sidering Municipal Marina to be a part of the 300 acres, proposal for a golf course
taking some 100 acres, major street connections, etc., over a long period of time,
the entire 300 acres of park or open space could be expected, but up to Council to
make decision regarding funding. He also discussed Canyon Road park site and
expansion of Community Park.
Councilman Rosselli questioned whether any proposals made for watershed property
at Edgewood Road and Canada since State College interested in taking some of land.
City Manager stated some discussions had been held as to availability of Hetch
Hetchy land between the college site and Canada Road as it presented a real possi-
bility for a golf course.
Councilman Rosselli also questioned vacant property adjacent to YMCA and its listing
in priority, and when receipt of "matching funds" could be expected. City Manager
advised first application for Federal funds about ready to present but of the indi-
cations received from the Federal Agency involved that applications exceed the funds
available by about 4 or 5 to 1; that when application is put in it might still be
some time before application is approved and funds received.
Councilman Henderson asked if the 50 acre site indicated on Redwood Peninsula is in
— the plan received from Leslie for development of this area. Planning Director advised
when General Plan of Redwood Shores had been approved, a 35 acre park was shown on
scavenger property outside of Leslie ownership but which might still materialize,
but on the other hand advised plan of Redwood Peninsula had been modified to include
the huge interior waterway system which did qualify as a park facility. Councilman
Henderson questioned whether sufficient acreage was proposed, either in land or the
waterway, to meet recommendations of the Plan.
10
13
'R 10 'BT
