21 <br />Councilman Granger moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5341 SUPPORTING REQUEST BY PORT <br />BOARD FOR APPROPRIATION OF FEDERAL FUNDS TO CARRY OUT STUDY OF CHANNEL ENLARGE- <br />MENT AND URGING CONSIDERATION OF SUCH REQUEST, seconded by Councilman Bury. Staff <br />report stated study necessary in order for the Port to remain in a competitive <br />position and be able to serve the larger ships, and because funds were not included <br />in the current Federal budget, Port Board has requested support of the City Coun- <br />cil and various other groups in San Mateo County in assisting their efforts to have <br />the funds included in the next budget. Motion carried on roll call vote, Councilman <br />Petersen being noted absent. <br />Councilman Rosselli announced he would abstain from action on the following item because <br />of property interests. <br />Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5342 AUTHORIZING SUPERINTENDENT <br />OF STREETS TO ORDER MINOR CHANGES IN THE WORK, LEXINGTON AVENUE AND VICINITY <br />IMPROVEMENTS, seconded by Councilman Bury. <br />Staff report stated this would allow Superintendent of Streets to make small changes <br />in the work outlined in the specifications, if these changes were less than <br />$500.000 each. Motion carried on roll call vote, Councilman Petersen being noted <br />absent, Councilman Rosselli abstaining. <br />DAMAGE CLAIM of Carl Greppi, 98 Alameda de las Pulgas, for personal damages alleged <br />to have been caused by false arrest, denied and referred to insurance carrier <br />on motion of Councilman Keckley, seconded by Councilman Henderson and carried. <br />(MINUTE ORDER #67-68) <br />ACCOUNTA PAYABLE, Nos. 60614 to 60840 inclusive, totaling $361,809.02, approved on <br />motion of Councilman Keckley, seconded by Councilman Henderson and carried. <br />COMMUNICATIONS: <br />Acknowledgment from Senator Thomas H. Kuchel of receipt of <br />Council's Resolution requesting deletion of section in the <br />Highway Beautification Act of 1965, relating to billboards <br />on State Highways, and assuring Council of his cooperation <br />to effect corrective legislation on this Act. <br />Councilman Henderson questioned report submitted to Council indicating higher <br />costs in City's retirement contribution is anticipated. City Manager briefly <br />explained causes for this, and advised this would be more fully discussed at <br />Council budget study meetings. (Memo 4/11/67) <br />Councilman Granger questioned reason for a recently retired police officer (Hansen) <br />not having received the increased retirement benefit. City Manager advised Council <br />had authorized increased benefits in retirement for certain retired groups in <br />specific year periods, which might not have included this particular employee, <br />because he was already getting higher benefits but that he would check and report <br />full circumstances. (Memo 4/11/67) <br />Councilman Rosselli asked that Council invite Charles Johnson, outstanding basketball <br />player of Sequoia High School named Northern California high school basketball <br />player of the Year for presentation of a merit award honoring his achievement and <br />its noteworthy publicity for Redwood City. Councilman Henderson stated these matters <br />should be suggested to the Mayor in advance and not be brought up at the meeting. <br />Councilman Rosselli responded that he is in favor of the Mayor establishing rules <br />for the Council meetings, and in not permitting discussion of any matters not on <br />the Agenda. (Memo 4/11/67) <br />Mayor Herkner asked for a report on cinnabar operations that had been authorized for <br />Stulsaft Park some time ago. (Memo 4/11/67) <br />Councilman Keckley asked that a progress report be made next week on Oak -El Camino <br />median barrier.
