85
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE, Nos. 61197 to 61420 inclusive, totaling $90,379.15, were approved on
motion of Councilman Rosselli, seconded by Councilman Keckley and carried.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Sequoia Yacht Club notifying Council of their protests con-
cerning recent improvements at the municipal Marina which
were considered by them to be hazardous and serving no use-
ful purpose for the enjoyment of yachting in the area; loca-
tion of the recently installed fuel dock; capping of the berth
piling with colorful caps which removed roosting place for sea-
gulls thereby causing a muisance to berthed boats. It was also
suggested that a Citizens Marina Improvement Committee be
appointed by the City to serve in an advisory capacity and
assist the Marina Committee for future planning of betterments
and/or improvements to the Marina complex.
Councilman Rosselli moved that this communication be referred to the Marina Committee,
seconded by Councilman Granger who requested the Committee to submit a report and
recommendation to Council. Councilman Henderson felt it should be noted that a
member of the Park & Recreation Commission, Mr. Jasper Sipes, had until most recently
been a member of the Sequoia Yacht Club, and had been the liason with the Marina
Committee. (MINUTE ORDER #67-102)
Councilman Bury suggested Council indicate by some appropriate manner the official
"kick-off" of the City's Centennial Year this week. Councilman Rosselli reported
he had been notified of the need of extra funds for a banner stating "Welcome to
Redwood City Centennial" to place across Broadway, and wondered if Council could
make a contribution of $75.00 which is needed for this purpose.
Councilman Keckley questioned why funds could not be found from the $15,000 con-
tribution made by the City towards the Centennial program. Councilman Rosselli
stated it had been indicated to him that funds were depleted.
Councilman Bury suggested this request be referred to the Kiwanis Club, and stated
he would see this was given immediate consideration. Councilman Petersen expressed
his amazement no consideration had been given for this most necessary type of sign
to signify the Centennial, before this time. Councilman Rosselli stated his full
agreement, but also reason for his concern.
At the request of Councilman Henderson, Mayor Herkner asked that Legislative
Committee review and make recommendation on legislation proposed that would prevent
City from making their own street signs if approved. (Memo 5/23/67)
Mayor Herkner also announced beginning of City's Centennial program on Thursday, urging
all to participate in banquet that evening as tickets are still available. Mayor
Herkner also reported on attendance of Councilman Rosselli and himself for dedication
of the Daly City new City Hall facilities and which prompted him to urge City's efforts
be accelerated here for planning and decisions to be made in order City's proposed
Civic Center plans would be realized as soon as possible. (Memo 5/23/67)
Councilman Keckley and Mayor Herkner after commenting on loss suffered by the City
through the death of a valuable and beloved City Employee, after which Councilman
Keckley moved that Council adjourn by adoption of RESOLUTION NO. 5372 COMMEMORATING
THE MEMORY OF WILLIAM A. SHACKELFORD, and to also adjourn to May 24, 1967, 7:30 p.m.,
Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Ave., for Budget Study Meeting, seconded
by Councilman Rosselli and carried. Meeting adjourned at 10:23 p.m.
cL
HELEN C. MOORE, City Clerk AW
