That a fence be constructed in the median island opposite <br />Washington School. <br />2. That sidewalks be redesigned to something less than 9 feet <br />in width. <br />3. That left turn storage lanes be incorporated in the median <br />island at Orchard Avenue and Union Avenue. <br />4. That the speed limit be retained at 35 MPH. <br />5. That consideration be given to undergrounding utilities. <br />He reported the meeting held in the San Francisco Office of the State Division <br />of Highways on April 12th with City and County Staffs had resulted in an agree- <br />ment on the following solutions to the conditions imposed by Council: (For <br />full text See City Clerk's File - Woodside Road Widening) <br />1. State plans will provide for a fence in the median island <br />opposite Washington School from Hudson St. to Hess Rd. <br />2. City request that sidewalk widths be redesigned to something <br />less than 9 feet being carefully considered and joint recommen- <br />dation made against this change for a number of listed reasons. <br />3. Left turn storage lane to permit U-turns at Orchard Avenue and <br />Union Ave. plans to be made as requested by the City. <br />4. State will study retention of 35 MPH speed limit and if indi- <br />cations merit, highway will be so signed. <br />5. Undergrounding of utilities subject studied with group and PGE <br />personnel resulting in State taking position they could not <br />participate in any costs of relocating utilities, but would <br />provide space within the right of way for either underground <br />or overhead utilities, necessary data being furnished the <br />utility companies to facilitate their studies and cost esti- <br />mates which are to be delivered to the Division of Highways <br />by June 15, 1967. <br />He further reported Staff still studying means to completely underground <br />the system with possibility of PGE applying their annual contribution <br />commitment of $80,000, which is being especially studied. County indi- <br />cation made of following lead of Redwood City in whatever method is <br />finally determined as major portion of route within jurisdiction of the <br />City. <br />City Manager requested Council approve the joint recommendations of the Divi- <br />sion of Highways, County and City Staff and direct the City Manager to trans- <br />mit this information to the Division of Highways so that engineering design <br />might proceed, and with the hope of being able to make a recommendation to <br />Council at their meeting of June 12th concerning undergrounding facilities. <br />Councilman Rosselli reported he had requested an opinion from the City Attorney <br />as to his rights as a business man on Woodside Road under County jurisdiction, <br />to participate in discussion and action on this matter without being subject <br />to conflict of interest restrictions. City Attorney advised no conflict of <br />interest revealed in his review because no contracts involved, it being a State <br />project, not a City project, and this conclusion would prevail concerning either <br />0 5 V <br />
