109 <br /> <br /> <br />Councilman Rosselli moved to accept the Police Department Budget as amended, <br />seconded by Councilman Petersen. Councilman Rosselli cautioned that in the near <br />future the City would have to consider the expansion of the Police Department and <br />hiring of additional personnel to compensate for the growth in area and popula- <br />tion of the community. (MINUTE ORDER #67-121-A) <br />The Fire Department Budget was next examined, Councilman Rosselli alerted the Council <br />to the bill in the legislature at the present time, which would cut the firemens' <br />work week to 56 hours and result in a great deal of added expense to the cities <br />to provide fire coverage for the difference in hours. <br />Councilman Henderson asked for an explanation on the request for fire alarm boxes <br />which the Manager explained, mentioning the possibility that future alarm systems <br />might be replaced by micro -wave system. Councilman Granger asked if the City <br />could purchase the fire hydrants from Capital Funds and was informed that those <br />fire hydrants to be installed on water lines constructed with bond funds could be <br />paid from bond funds. City Manager recommended that the allocation in the <br />Budget be reduced to $1,000, and that additional hydrants be paid from water bonds <br />where eligible. Mayor Herkner requested Staff to discuss the value of our fire <br />alarm boxes with the League of California Cities. He indicated this item was of <br />such general interest that they might wish to make a study of it. (Memo 6/8y67) <br />The contract with the Dumbarton Fire District was discussed as well as the conse- <br />quences of the loss of revenue from that source. Councilman Petersen, Chairman <br />of the Dumbarton Fire District Committee, reported that a meeting with the <br />District was set for Thursday, June 8, and he would report to Council at the <br />meeting of June 12th on the outcome. (Memo 6/8/67) <br />Councilman Henderson moved to approve the Fire Department Budget, as amended, <br />seconded by Councilman Keckley and carried, (MINUTE ORDER #67-122) <br />After a. brief discussion of the requested appropriation in the Civil Defense Budget <br />for undergrounding of fire alarm system, Councilman Rosselli moved to approve <br />that Budget, seconded,tby Councilman Keckley and carried. (MINUTE ORDER #67-123) <br />The Budget for Building Regulation was approved without change on motion of Councilman <br />Henderson, seconded by Councilman Keckley and carried, (MINUTE ORDER #67-123-A) <br />The Engineering and Administration Budget for Public Works was next discussed. The <br />City Manager informed the Council that he anticipates some additional organiza- <br />tional changes in this Department. This may result in transfer of funds between <br />divisions in the Department, but the dollar total will remain the same. He <br />stated further that prior to the public hearing on the Budget at the meeting of <br />June 19th, he will have the answers for the Council on the personnel and reor- <br />ganization of the Public Works Department, and, therefore, he would not ask for <br />approval of the two items in this Budget relating to a change over in personnel. <br />(MEMO 6/8/67) <br />Syn , '8T <br />
