144 <br />Communication signed by Verne A. Laughton, President of Peninsula <br />Cable Television Corp., stating in view of publicity reporting <br />Redwood City CATV Inc., had dropped its plans to provide a CATV <br />service to Redwood City, their Company reiterated their desire and <br />ability to provide this service and would appreciate reconsidera- <br />tion of their previously submitted application. <br />Councilman Granger moved communication be made a part of the record and thereafter <br />filed. No second to motion. Councilman Bury suggested Staff make a further report <br />on the possibility of reopening this issue either with or without a hearing on the <br />matter. City Manager recommended Staff review the total situation again thoroughly <br />before making a recommendation on the best way to reinstitute this matter, as to <br />progress made by other applicants and all other pertinent information now avail- <br />able. Councilman Rosselli moved to accept City Manager's verbal recommendation, <br />seconded by Councilman Bury and carried. (MINUTE ORDER #67-147) <br />Councilman Petersen reported a communication referred to him, as Chairman of Trans- <br />portation Committee, should have actually been referred to Legislative Committee <br />as it concerned proposed legislation for levying a sales tax on gasoline. <br />Communication referred to Legislative Committee as suggested. (Memo 6/27/67) <br />City Manager asked for permission from Council for himself and Assistant City <br />Manager to consult with DMJM Administrative Staff in Los Angeles, Wednesday, <br />June 28th, on problems relating to GID 1-64. He also stated while in Los <br />Angeles he desired to inspect the new Municipal Services Department in Garden <br />Grove, as their City comparable in size to Redwood City, He advised the trip would <br />be of no expense to the City. Council indicated approval of City Manager's pro- <br />posal. <br />Councilman Granger questioned necessity for school crossing guards during summer school <br />program as reported by Staff. After further discussion, Police Chief reported <br />after numerous requests had been made to their Department for this service and <br />after a thorough study had been made as to low cost to City of $800 for the <br />placing of guards at the six locations with a total of eight men, he had recom- <br />mended to City Manager that this action be taken as real hazards existed to <br />children at all the crossings and he felt the City would not be fulfilling its <br />responsibilities if such action had not been taken. He admitted he did feel <br />school participation justified, but present rulings stated they were not respon- <br />sible and that the City was. <br />Mayor Herkner asked that Vice Mayor Bury accept the Chair as he desired to make the <br />motion to adjourn by commemorating the passing of Congressman J. Arthur Younger, <br />and asked that resolution be read in full and made a part of the Minutes as follows: <br />NO. 5415 <br />"RESOLUTION/COMMEMORATING THE MEMORY OF CONGRESSMAN J. ARTHUR YOUNGER <br />WHEREAS, this community has been saddened by the untimely loss of <br />J. Arthur Younger, United States Congressman from San Mateo <br />County; and <br />WHEREAS, Congressman Younger has wisely and ably guided the destiny <br />of this community, this county and this nation; and <br />WHEREAS, words alone are insignificant to commemorate the monumental <br />achievements accomplished through the efforts and leadership of J. <br />Arthur Younger; <br />NOW THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY AS FOLLOWS: <br />0 26 '67 <br />
