182
Wm. H. Royer, 1047 Whipple Ave., representing the
Carney family, stated request had been unanimously
approved by the Planning Commission after a hearing
at which no protests were received. He reviewed pre-
valent substandard lots in this area, of a size being
requested by applicant. He also stated applicants were
original owners and had lived on these premises for over
twenty-five years and now desire the lot split to build
another single family dwelling.
Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5450 GRANTING EXCEPTION TO PRO-
VISIONS OF CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, BEING THE SUBDIVISION
REGULATIONS OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, AND APPROVING A SUBDIVISION THEREUNDER -
R.H. AND B.F. CARNEY, seconded by Councilman Bury. Council questioned Planning
Director on possibility of a study being made of these substandard lot situations con-
tinually coming before the Council. Planning Director advised a study was being
conducted on this particular phase along with other studies also being currently
conducted in coordination with the General Plan studies, and indicated this would
be discussed, with other matters, during joint meeting of Council with the Planning
Commission, Councilman Petersen stated he disapproves of creating substandard lots,
but indicated in this instance to disapprove would result in a hardship to property
owner because of many similar lots already existing in the area, but didn't feel
granting of this variance should set any precedent. Motion carried on roll call
vote, Councilman Henderson being noted absent.
REPORT OF BID OPENING, Veterans -Walnut -Bradford -Maple Improvements. The following bids
were received:
Corrections
Fiske, Firenze, McLean, Inc. $100,575.40 $100,57`x.90
Kunz Paving Co. 101,468.19 101,464.19
Bragato Paving Co. 105,226.75
Douglas & Woodhouse 107,426.55
McGuire & Hester 107,781.90
Engineer's Estimate $98,571.75
Staff recommended award of bid to low bidder, Fiske, Firenze, McLean, Inc., in the
sum of $100,575.90, subject to required approval by State Division of Highways inas-
much as this bid is approximately 2% over the Engineer's Estimate.
Councilman Rosselli moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5451 AWARDING CONTRACT FOR THE
IMPROVEMENT OF VETERANS BOULEVARD FROM MAPLE STREET THROUGH THE REDWOOD CREEK
BRIDGE, seconded by Councilman Petersen and carried on roll call vote, Councilman
Henderson being noted absent.
Request of PGE for extension of time for completion of Underground District 66-1.
presented for consideration. Staff report stated because the PGE work of under
grounding must be coordinated with the Veterans -Walnut -Bradford -Maple Almprovements,
for which the contract had just been awarded, additional time would be needed by
the PGE as requested, present undergrounding work to have been completed by August
31, 1967, and request being made for an extension of 120 days from August 31st, to
December 29th, 1967. City Manager further elaborated on the work to be done adjacent
to the Kaiser Hospital and which had to be coordinated by both PGE and PTT with the
improvements for which construction contract has now been awarded, and stated his
approval of the requested extension.
Councilman Rosselli moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5452 GRANTING FURTHER EXTENSION OF
TIME FOR COMPLETION OF UNDERGROUNDING OF UTILITIES IN UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT
NO. 66-1, seconded by Councilman Keckley and carried on roll call vote, Councilman
Henderson being noted absent.
0 14 It
