I
providing conpensation upon removal of certain outdoor advertising signs, etc.
both with State regulations and existing City Ordinance covering amortization
of signs along freeways without compensation. Mayor Herkner requested this
matter be referred to the Legislative Committee and a report be made back to
Council in two weeks. (Feb. 20th) Memo 2/7/67)
Communication from Robert J. Dell'Ergo, Attorney, addressed
to both Redwood City Council, San Carlos City Council, and
County Board of Supervisors, concerning clients he is repre-
senting in their protest of dangerous conditions being
created in the Alameda de las Pulgas-Eaton Avenue Improve-
ment Project, and advising formal damage claims would be
filed shortly. (Copy previously submitted to Council)
Councilman Granger moved this communication be referred to the Director of Public
Works and City Attorney, seconded by Councilman Rosselli. On question, Council-
man Henderson asked that motion be restated to require that a Staff report be
submitted to Council when matter investigated. Motion as restated carried.
(MINUTE ORDER #67-20)
Communication from Dr. H. D. Chops, Director of County
Department of Public Health and Welfare, asking that Council
consider an amendment to the City Code concerning composi-
tion of Board of Review now requiring that the Director of
Public Health and Welfare of San Mateo County, County Superin"
dent of Health, and a City Council member, be present to hear
evidence against food establishments before the Board for
violations. It was suggested amendment be made to make it
possible "designated representatives" could also act as Board
of Review to avoid delays.
City Attorney indicated his preference for no amendment to the Ordinance because
of the small number of officials involved, and few cases which are presented
throughout a year on which full Board needed to consider violations. Councilman
Granger, representative on this Board, stated he had not been called for such a
hearing this past year.
City Attorney also stated, in view of the consequences of action when needed by
this Board, he felt it best to maintain the top level of departments involved.
Mayor Herkner asked this matter be placed on next week's Agenda with a report,
after a review by the City Manager. (Memo 2/7/67)
Councilman Bury questioned timing on copy of communication also submitted from Calif.
Professional Soccer Club wherein they were requesting approval of use of City
playing field beginning February 15th, and scheduled to be discussed at next
weeks' meeting, February 13th. He felt this should be considered by the Council
prior to next week to give more latitude for their planning in event Council
might not consider their request favorably.
Councilman Rosselli stated he believed this matter had already been reviewed
by Staff and referred to the Park & Recreation Commission and should be approved
by the Council. He felt it to be another step in establishing Redwood City as
a center of professional athletics. City Manager advised of the manner in which
request had been made through Recreation Director and referred to Park and
Recreation Commission as an addendum to their Agenda at their last meeting,
having been reviewed and a recommendation would be forthcoming. City Manager
stated Staff does recommend approval of request for use of a Community Park play-
ing field for their work outs.
